Lofte’s Successful Toy Drive for Nebraska Children’s Home Society!

The Lofte would like to thank everyone who participated in the cooperative toy drive with Fat Brain Toys that benefitted the Nebraska Children’s Home Society.  Together we donated nearly 100 toys to this worthy organization!  The toy drive took place during the three-week run of the play, “Dear Santa.”  As nearly 30 children were in the cast of the show, the Lofte thought it only appropriate that a Christmas charity activity benefitting needy kids be part of the production.

The NCHS provides pregnancy, parenting and adoption services as well as foster care, teen parenting services and early childhood programming.   Founded in 1981 this non-profit organization works for the greater good of children and families in our state.

The winner of the $200 gift certificate to Fat Brain Toys was Mindy Kleven!  Mindy has taught math to 6th, 7th and 8th graders at Louisville Public Schools for the past eight years.  She has a thirteen-month old son, Noah.  “The gift certificate will probably go towards purchasing toys/games for my son and for my classroom.”  Mindy took part in the toy drive via the state champion one-act play cast from Louisville.  “My husband and I wanted to help local children as well as support our amazing one-act program.”  While she hasn’t yet attended a Lofte production, she hopes to very soon.

Thank you all of those who helped to make this toy drive a success.  Also thank you to our new sponsor, Fat Brain Toys for coming up with this clever idea to not only promote the Lofte, but do some good at the same time.  Finally, we thank Nebraska Children’s Home Society for their good works and wish them luck with their programs in the future.

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a special "Schoolhouse Celtic Fiddling Camp", for fiddlers, violists, mandolinists, guitarists, and ukulele players. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured.  The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt.  Each participant will receive a copy of Deborah's latest publication, the Celtic Fiddler's Song Book.

The camp will be on Wednesday, March 9  - Friday, March 11, from 9 AM to 1 PM.  You can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days.

On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation.  We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords.  You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun.

On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets.  Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help.

On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments.

One day:                $60.00
Two days:               $110.00 ($55 per day)
