A huge thank you to all the many volunteers who put up and

took down flags at the Unadilla Cemetery. The honor and respect

you display is so heartwarming. And we appreciate that some of

you are including the next generation in your service.

The Unadilla Alumni celebrated "Happy 150 Years Nebraska" at

the Duncan Building on Saturday, May 27th with 40 in attendance.

Ralph Ross led the Flag Salute and Mary Margaret Clark led the

Doxology. Fried chicken was furnished and many salads, main

dishes and desserts were brought in by attendees and enjoyed by

all. Honored classes were from 1942, 1947, 1952, and 1957. Rose

Marie Brandt represented the 75 year class of 1942, Leota Lemka

Krivacopich was here from California to celebrate her 70 year class,

1947. Sylvia Beccard Snoke of Eagle was here from the class of

1952 and Ralph Ross, Syracuse, and Peggy Leefers were 60 year

classmates.

Other alumni recognized were Roland Rodaway, class of 1938,

Birdean West and Glen Wyatt, class of 1941, Jack Stilwell, class

of 1943, Lois Ebert, class of 1944, and Bob Fey, class of 1945.

Arvilla Noerlinger, class of 1945, could not attend but called and

told about a surprise birthday trip to New York City.

The committe for this year was Joyce & Frank Schulze, class of

1956, Ralph & Jane Ross and Peggy Leefers, class of 1957,

and Marilyn & Jim Schreiner, Omaha, and Robert & Judy Callaway,

Lincoln, class of 1958.

Jean Lucas, secretary and treasurer, reported on the finances

and gave an account of last years dinner. Each attendee stood

and told about themselves, family, hobbies, special interests, and

everyone learned a little about our long time friends.

A question and answer sheet about Nebraska was a learning

experience and everyone did pretty good. A word scramble of

Nebraska towns and one of word associations for Nebraska

towns was fun for all. Lots of prize bags were awarded along

with several store gift cards. Countryside Bank furnished table

favors for each person.

The dinner will be the same time, same place next year and

notices will be sent out as usual. Peggy Leefers closed the

evening with an Irish Prayer.

A huge thank you to Peggy Leefers for sharing this story!

"The Man Who Came to Dinner"

Lofte 500

Front: Brenda Jones, Aubree Sweeney, Ken Snyder

Back: Doug Rothgeb, Tim Sorensen, Trish Miller, Rosalie Duffy

The Lofte's second production of the year takes us back to small-town Ohio in the 1930s.  Sheridan Whiteside ("Sherry" to his friends) is a famously outlandish New York City radio personality who has been invited to dine at the home of the well-to-do Stanley family.  But disaster strikes before he enters the house.  Whiteside slips on the ice and injures his hip!

What started out as a one-night event soon turns into a month-long convalescence.  Confined to the house, Sherry drives his hosts mad by viciously insulting them, monopolizing their house, running up large phone bills, and receiving many bizarre guests, including paroled convicts.
This classic American script has enjoyed several revivals on Broadway and the London stage and was made into a feature film in 1942 starring Bette Davis, Jimmy Durante and Monty Woolly.
Ken Snyder of Elmwood is playing the irascible Sheridan Whiteside.  He is joined on stage by Brenda Jones (Louisville) and Tim Sorensen (Elmwood) playing his hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley.  Rosalie Duffy (Lincoln) and Doug Rothgeb (Omaha) play the star-crossed Maggie Cutler and Bert Jefferson. Rounding out the cast are Dustin Reckling (Louisville), Jean Wymore (Syracuse), Jessica and Rita McKinney, Ken Patry and Trish Miller (Omaha), Cheryl and Will Jones (Manley), Tom Lucas (Papillion), Jeff Johnston (Elmwood), Mike Brown (Firth), Jim Skrobo (Elkhorn), Aubree Sweeney and Millard Carnes (Plattsmouth),  Guillermo Rosas (La Vista), Zeke Rouse (Murray), Brenna Thompson, Nick Roth (Lincoln), John Bell and Dan Roberg (Omaha) and Shawn Reynolds (Bellevue).  The production is directed by Kevin Colbert.
"The Man Who Came to Dinner" runs June 2-4 and 8-11.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7pm.  Sunday performances begin at 2pm.  Those interested in tickets may call the box office at 402-234-2553 or visit http://Lofte.org for online purchasing.  All seats are reserved and ticket price is $19.
