Dale & Karen Isaacs and Eileen Isaacs were recent supper guests at the home of Melton & Edra Dixon, Otoe. Edra served her most famous taco salad and cake and ice cream were served later in the evening.

Mike & Penny McCormick, Wisconsin, were in the area last week visiting Ruth & Vern Wilhelm. They ate with Bob, Barb, and Ruth Wilhelm Thursday night. And with Bev, Jeremy, Ruth, Bob, & Barb Wilhelm Friday night. Mike and Bob got in a round of golf Friday and Penny made a trip to the Quilt Museum.

The morning of March 3rd, Dale & Karen Isaacs wondered why their big tomcat, Billy, came running up to their back door with his hair standing straight up and wanting in immediately. To their surprise there were 11 turkeys walking in their backyard and they were in no hurry. Billy knows when to run for cover! Sure would have liked to have seen some pictures!

Brylar Jo Werner, daughter of Brian & Laramie Werner, was baptized at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse, on Sunday, March 29th. (That was also Laramie's birthday.) Brylar's sponsors were Katie Werner and Rachel Werner. A lunch was served afterwards at the Duncan Building. Guests included Brylar's "Meme" from Tennessee, Karen Stancil, and grandparents in Syracuse, Dennis & Janell Werner, brother Anden, and other family and friends.

Bob & Barb Wilhelm hosted a brunch Saturday morning for the April birthdays in the Boardman family. Those attending were: Larry & Denise Boardman and Rod Boardman, Lincoln, Mary Hanke, Deric, Codi, & Emie Hanke, Omaha, Loy Boardman, Grace & Hope Kuenning, Syracuse, Larry Elofson, Fremont, and Michele, Maisie, & Madison Hillman, Unadilla. There was lots of great food, as usual, and after the meal, they did a webcam call to the Hitzemann family in Iowa. It's been said before, but what a great invention that webcam is!

Holly Vogt still has cardinal shirts left - see her ad in our "classifieds".

Unadilla United Methodist Women met April 1 in the Fellowship Hall with 10 members present. The Purpose was read in unison. A Corsage for Missions was given to Susie Wyatt for being hostess. June Tipken, Devotions, handed out one dozen plastic colored eggs, each containing a tiny object pertaining to Jesus' ride to Jerusalem. May Lamb, Education & Interpretation, and Irma Taylor, Social Action, both gave reports. Rose Ann and June reported on Mission Study at UCC on March 28th. June attended "I Believe in Jesus" and Rose Ann attended "Native American Survival". Spring Retreat is April 29th at Southgate UMC in Lincoln. Cookie Sunday is April 19th, with Mary and Susie hosting. Mary Gartner gave the lesson "Who Am I At The Table?" Five readers took part. Susie served a delicious lunch.

Did you know that each year, Americans throw away 138 billion straws and stirrers, enough to make a giant straw statue 20 times taller than the Statue of Liberty?

Friday, 4-9-1909, The Otoe Union: Ex-governor, William A. Poynter, died suddenly at the State House after giving an address to Gov. Shallenberger and members of the Legislature, in favor of the "daylight saloon" bill. A hobo was killed on the tracks near Otoe. A daughter was born to H.F. Lyons. Elected to the Unadilla Board of Trustees: H.E. Bassett, I.F. Lowe, and I.H. Stewart. There were still no leaves on the trees. Two you men died from "Black Measles" at Dunbar.
