Oh yeah, there is ANOTHER holiday in February...
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
I kind of jumped the gun last week when I said new photos were available
under the "Events" tab above. There are quite a few on there, but no, I'm still not
done! A big thank you to Michele Capps, Mark Czapla and April Isaacs for sharing photos.
We also want to thank Elliot & Alice Gee, Rick & Connie Bruns, Nancy Gerking,
Babette McWilliams, "The Nut House" at Valparaiso, John Knorr, Dave Hall,
Nathan Bischoff, Elliot Stoner, Susanna Porter & the Girl Scouts,
John Groathouse & the Boy Scouts, Jan & Turner Moore, and
Susan Schearer, for their "behind the scenes" help.
Congratulations to Chris & Jen Foley on the birth of their new
daughter, Saige Ashlyn. Grandparents are Rick & Annette Block,
and great-grandparents are Keith & Alberta Block.
It's not too late to join the Uechi Ryu classes! They are being
held on Monday evenings in the Community Center gym. Cost
is $25/person or $40/family. Everyone 8 and up is welcome -
wear comfortable clothes! If you need more information, call
Corinne at the Village Office 828-5705.
Congratulations to Dan Crownover, who has moved from
the wheelchair to a walker. Continued well wishes to Chuck
McGowan, Dean Achen, and Barb Leefers.

Nyckelharpa Concerto Premieres in Nebraska
On Sunday, April 13, at 3 PM, the Hastings Symphony will be performing a world premiere: the world's first concerto for nyckelharpa and orchestra. The piece is composed by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, and will be performed by multi-instrumentalist, Deborah Greenblatt. The piece is in three movements, each one reflecting a story by Hans Christian Anderson: "The Brave Tin Soldier", "The Ugly Duckling", and "The Emperor's New Clothes".
The nyckelharpa is the official fiddle of Sweden. The instrument has 16 strings in all. There are 3 melody strings, manipulated by keys, one droning string, and 12 strings that vibrate sympathetically.
For more information about the nyckelharpa, contact the American Nyckelharpa Association (www.nyckelhapra.org/).
