Hope you have a lot of fun at
the Otoe County Fair!
SYRACUSE, NEBRASKA
July 28 - 31, 2016
Belated 42nd wedding anniversary to Gary & Kathryn Ganger.
They celebrated July 23rd.
This is old news, but it's worth repeating: The legislature
passed LB93 a while back and it allows you to renew your
driver's license and have the word "Veteran" imprinted on it,
at no extra cost. You will first need to register with the
NE Department of Veteran's Affairs. This can be done at
www.veterans.nebraska.gov and then click on the button in
the middle of the page "Veteran Registry". You must register
before you go to the DMV to renew your license. Please
share this information with other veterans because it will
allow you to receive veteran discounts at Lowes, Cabelas,
and other establishments.
If you belong to the DAR, they are requesting members to
sign up to go to funerals at the new Omaha National Cemetery.
Similar to the "Arlington Ladies" you would be asked to attend
funerals of veterans who won't have any family members
present. If you are interested, please contact me.
If you're a new resident it can sometimes be hard to
remember hours of local businesses. Especially the
Post Office, since the hours have been cut in half. It
is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - Noon and Saturday
8:00 - 9:00 a.m. If you miss the deadline, the Syracuse
Post Office is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 11:30 a.m.
then 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
Hope this helps with the confusion!
The updated "Keno Fund Use" list is now available.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO
Friday, 7-28-1916, The Otoe Union:
H.N. Leacock, Roca, was the new manager for Finigan
Creamery (sometimes referred to as the Swift Creamery.)
He and his family moved to Unadilla. "Manager Judkins of
the Farmer's Lumber Co. has invested in a new Oliver
typewriter and is busily engaged in teaching it how to spell."
Pansy Pickerill, 2 1/2, drowned in a jar that caught drippins
from the ice box. C.A. Sweet sold Palmyra Items to Prof.
W.C. Giffen, who promptly raised the subscription price
from $1.00 to $1.50 a year.
