Interested in quilting? The Unadilla Community Library has received
donations of two new quilting books. The Nebraska State Quilt
Guild provided “Jo’s Little Favorites – Timeless Quilts from Scraps
and Fat Quarters†by Jo Morton. Jo is a Nebraska author,
living in Nebraska City. She is well-known for her “Jo’s Little
Women Club†patterns and has made several television
appearances on multiple quilting shows.
The Nebraska City Quilt Guild donated “Secrets of Digital Quilting –
from Camera to Quilt†by Lura and Kerby Smith. The book details
the process of printing digital imagery on fabric to use in quilting.
Thank you to Christie Brehm for this donation.
Both books are great additions to the library’s wealth of information
on quilting!! Come check it out!!
Are you celebrating Nebraska’s 150th anniversary? Your library has
a great selection of Nebraska authors and books.
The Nebraska 150 Book Selection Committee chose 150
notable Nebraska books to highlight for the Nebraska 150
Celebration. These books represent the best literature produced
from Nebraska during the past 150 years and highlight the
varied cultures, diverse experiences and the shared history of
Nebraskans. We have over 26 of these books on our shelves with
more books by Nebraska authors. Come check them out!!
Don't forget to sign up at The Bar for the Men's Fastpitch
Ball Team's fundraiser on April 30th.
Wasn't the weather wonderful this weekend? Unfortunately the
"flu" paid a visit to the Western Wilhelm Outpost.
Syracuse Class of 1967, please contact Bob Brandt
with your personal information so you can receive the
invite, etc., for the Alumni Banquet.
Please remember the intersection by the Park/Ballfield is a
4-way stop and the speed limit is 25 m.p.h. Keep an eye out for
ballplayers as the season has begun!
Also, give a second look at the railroad tracks as the Village
was notified the trains are moving again.
Did you know from 1915 to 1939 you had to buy new license
plates every year as they were 2 colors and the color
combination changed every year.
And on the subject of card, the Ford Mustang was introduced
4-17-1964. For me it was love at first sight!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO
Friday, 4-13-1917, The Otoe Union:
"A cow belonging to Will Dean dropped a pair of twin calves
last Saturday and Will says that it is due to the high cost of
living." Bert Black sold his farm for $160 per acre. There is a
very interesting article on "Fighting Flies". It suggests mixing
1 T. cream, 1T. ground black pepper, and 1 T. brown sugar,
and putting it in a saucer, placing it in the window most
frequented by flies. (If you try this, let us know!) Also there
are many references to Germany and the war, and our
"boys" going to Canada to enlist for the fighting.
