Floyd & Bev Koerner

Bev was born 5-21-1932 to Carl & Mary (Wagner) Fisk,

near Anselmo, Nebraska. She passed away 3-10-10 in Syracuse.

She married Floyd Koerner on 6-4-1953.

Bev taught in a rural school near Syracuse, worked at a lab,

and ended her career cooking for the children in the Unadilla

School. She was also especially good at fixing "boo-boos".

She was a great friend and confidant to me and my siblings

after our own mother passed. Bev and Floyd loved to camp

and volunteered many hours as campground hosts in parks

in southeast Nebraska. She will be missed by so many.

Survivors: daughter Sheila and George Zavodny, Weston;daughter

Janet and Jay Lind, Lincoln; brother, Raymond Fisk, Burr;

grandchildren Michael Shane and Christal Zavodny, Niki and

Barry Potts, Kerry Sommers, Neil Cary, Devon Lind; great

grandchildren Michaela and Kylie Zavodny, Seth, Ethan, and

Austin Potts.

Bev was proceeded in death by her husband Floyd, her parents,

brother Darrel Fisk, sisters Darlene Boardman, Gertrude Morris,

and Elsie Mannschreck.

Funeral services were Saturday at Beautiful Saviour Lutheran

Church, Palmyra. She was laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park

Cemetery, next to her beloved Floyd.

Ron & Lois Johnson, Gordon Hopp & Shari Timm, Bob & Barb

Wilhelm, Keith & Sandi Kimbell, Ron & Maryanna Wenninghoff,

and Curt Kimbell, were among the 55 members/spouses

attending the 91st American Legion Birthday Party, March 9,

at the Syracuse Country Club. The Legion Auxiliary celebrated

their 90th birthday. Corned beef and cabbage was served by

the Legion; cake was provided by the Auxiliary. Legion members were

honored for their many years of membership and work. Those honored

from Unadilla were: Gerry Davis, 40 years; Richard Eis, 55 years;

Gordon Hopp, 40 years; Keith Kimbell, 35 years; Tom Rodaway, 40 years;

Harvey Vogt, 35 years; and Ron Wenninghoff, 40 years. Kathy &

Vaughn Hackstadt provided the musical entertainment and Linda Holz

provided some "line dancing" fun.

Fred Lyon sold his farm to N. Pickerill. William Farnsworth caught his

8th coyote. Twins were born to Walter McIntyres'. Gertrude Stedman

and Leon Byram were married in Lincoln by Rev. A.P. Byram. Bertha

Maller and Charles Besch were married in Unadilla by Rev. A.A. Kerber.

Clarinda Butter & Egg Co. began advertising in the paper.

OTOE COUNTY RURAL SCHOOLS REUNION

On April 10th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Otoe County Genealogical

Society will host its 1st Annual Otoe County Rural Schools Reunion

at Harmony School, 6265 "Q" Road, which is located 8 miles south

of Nebraska City on Hwy #75, and 1/2 mile west on "Q" Road.

Harmony School is a rural schoolhouse that was built in 1879, and was

closed in 1997. This reunion will include a coffee social and tour

of the 130-year old schoolhouse. In addition, it will also give visitors

a chance to assist our society in identifying numerous rural school

photographs from several different districts throughout the county.

The society has come into possession of these prized photographs

through the Otoe County Courthouse Clean-Up Project. The photos

were donated by the Otoe County Clerk's office, and other donations.

PLEASE, come join us at Harmony School and help us pay tribute to

these buildings that contributed so much to the education of our

youth for over 100 years!

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will host it's quarterly Genealogy

Internet Workshop at the Morton-James Public Library in Nebraska

City on April 8th at 7:00 pm. This workshop will cover how to utilize

numerous websites to assist you in your research. The library has access

to Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest, both of which have online records

of the U.S. Federal Census' and to thousands of other valuable data

bases as well. So please come join us, and bring along a copy of your

family tree so you can fill in some of those missing gaps.

For folks who have never played a fiddle or violin, and are brave enough to

try, come to the Workshop for Folks Who Have Never Fiddles.

Fiddles will be available for participants to play, and source lists and advice

for further study will be provided. The Workshop takes place on Saturday,

April 3, 1 - 3 pm in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse. Pre-registration is

required, enrollment is limited, and there is a $20.00 fee.

Spring is in the air! The roads are clear, the birds are singing and there's

a new comedy opening at Mahoney State Park. "Having a Wonderful

Time, Wish You Were Here" is a wild bedroom comedy by Billy Van Zandt

and Jane Millmore. Directed by Kevin Colbert, it is filled with

double standards, midnight rendezvous, and a hungry bear. If you don't

like to laugh, you'd better stay away from this one. PG13 is suggested

for some adult situations.

Performance dates are March 13-14, 19-21,26-28, April 3, 9-11,

and 16-18. Fridays & Saturdays, 7:30 pm; Sundays 2:00 pm.

$8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children 12 and under. Dinner theater
