LOCAL NEWS

Please do not put leaves or other yard waste in the burn pile. This is a violation of our permit and could cause the burn pile to be closed.

Reminder: dog licenses expire April 30th.

In response to the “old news” a few weeks back, Black Measles was the common name for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Thanks Maureen!

Sunday, April 19th, Barb Wilhelm, Mary Hanke, Loy Boardman, Bev Koerner, Sheila Zavodny, Dean & Carol Fisk, Lucille Kriefels, Nancy Freye, and Ken & Dala Drake, attended the memorial service for their cousin and niece, Vicky (Morris) Cooper. The service was at Hamburg, IA. Vicky lost her battle with heart disease on April 13th.

Ruth & Vern Wilhelm have two new great-grandsons this month. Landon Scott Wilhelm was born to Jeff & Tricia Wilhelm, Republican City, and Charlie Walter Wilhelm was born to Marcus & Brianne Wilhelm, Omaha. That makes 5 girls and 4 boys.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

4-23-1909, The Otoe Union: Notice of Incorporation of the Farmer’s Lumber Company with Thomas Rodaway serving as President, and J.W. Bassett as Secretary. The old bank had been renovated and was being used as the Post Office. (The very west part of The Bar. The old night mailbox is still attached to the building out front.) A.H. Soflin was looking for carpenter or mason work. Medicine peddlers were “quite plentiful”.
