The featured author of the month for November is Danielle Steele.

Her new book "Legacy" is just in. Look for the highlighted section

and find more of her novels available for checkout. New additions

include "Unadilla Residents" and "Wyuka, A Place of Rest:

Nebraska City's Pioneer Cemetery". Both of these were donated

by the Otoe County Genealogical Society and are ready to

be used in researching you family history; they will be 'in-library'

use only, as are other historical publications. The library also holds

the history written by Norman Rodaway, old school annuals, and some

old school newspapers. The book "Denver Do Good", several

articles, and papers, written by native son Denver Gray,

are also available. He records his early life in the Unadilla area

and what it was like during the Pearl Harbor attack. These can

all be found in the "Nebraska" section. Old family photos

and/or documents can find a home here at the library and can

be available for research also. Please contact Peggy Leefers or

Barb Wilhelm if you're interested. We hope to provide longer

hours and hope to become a local research center for this area.

Stop in and get to know us, we welcome your suggestions!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

mailbox_3

Friday, 11-4-1910, The Otoe Union:

A number of large corn cribs were being built. Mae and Hazel

West went to Syracuse where "Mae had her eyes fitted with

glasses." "Those who know say we will have an open winter,

as the corn husks are light and pliable." An ice pond was made at

H.P. Farnsworth's farm (now the residence of Ray Doeden)

for "cutting ice and skating." A new bell was hung at Hopewell.
