Once again the Groundhog Day's activities are sealed

in the book for 2011. Off to a rought start

weather-wise, it ended up being a good day (what's a

little rain, anyway?) Activities at the gym were well

attended and the vendors were quite happy with their

sales. Nearly 200 attended the presentation by

Karen Wyatt Drevo about her great-great-grandmother,

Maria Rodaway. And the feedback was the most positive

we've had for the last five years.

A HUGE thank-you to those individuals and businesses

who donated to the silent auction. Those items can be paid

for and picked up at the new Village Office from 8:30

to 12:30, Monday - Friday. Jill Vogt Cox was the winner

of the Commemorative Groundhog Rifle.

There were about 330 in the crowd to watch the parade. It was

started off as usual by the Lincoln Parachute Club.

Master of Ceremonies, Bill Farmer, was assisted by Lynn

Schomerus and Nathan Bischoff. Greg Bleka and the

Good-time Polka Band served as the Grand Marshalls of the

parade. (They are also the "official" polka band of

Groundhog Day.)

2nd place Pressley Wilhelm, and 3rd place, Halle Wilhelm.

were busy selling shirts and the boy scouts were selling food,

both raising money for their organizations.

Jeremy_and_Mindy

Mindy Liesemeyer and Jeremy Wilhelm were crowned

King and Queen of the Groundhog Realm. Jeremy's election

completed the "Trilogy" and he can finally stand tall

between his two brothers! Thanks to all ten candidates for

their groundhog loyalty and good humor; in all they raised

$4260 for the Unadilla Fire & Rescue.

The Bar provided music later in the evening, Unadilla Hardware

hosted a ping-pong tournament, and Area 51 was open to all who

were brave enough to enter.

The Unadilla Area Foundation would like to say thank you to all

the hard working volunteers not listed previously, the

participants whose numbers were many, and our great

photographers, April Isaacs, Mary Boardman Hanke, and

Bob Wilhelm - we couldn't have done it without you!

See you next year!
