We've been seeing hummingbirds again -
maybe they never left?
Sad to report the death of William Arlen Davis, you may remember
him as "Bill", age 63, son of Bill & Florence Davis, on August 10,
in Sacramento, California. His memorial service will be held
August 25, also in Sacramento. He is survived by his daughter,
sisters Gloria and Crystal. Local relatives are Gerry and Billy
Ray Davis and Frank Schulze. Condolences to family and friends.
Last Friday night, my sister Mary and I attended a program
by Craig Johnson, author of the "Longmire" series. The TV
series was a big hit at our house and until I saw the poster
from the Sarpy County Libraries, I didn't even know there
were books! He was down to earth, very charming, and missed
his calling of stand up comedian. Johnson told about the process
of writing the series, who he based his characters on, the
actor auditions, and a hilarious story centered around Rainer
Beer. He also shared with us that his father went to his grave
thinking he was the model for Walt Longmire; spoiler alert:
he was the model for Lucien! If you ever get a chance to see
him, we highly recommend it!
Did you know that Nebraska was ranked 2nd in all cattle
and calves, December 31, 2017, with 6,800,000 head?
Also 2nd in livestock and products receipts in 2016, at
$12,147,375,000; 2nd in hay production, pinto beans
production, proso millet production, and light red kidney
beans production, all in 2017; and head of bison in 2012
with 23,152 head. Nebraska's farms and ranches utilize
45.2 million acres - 91% of the state's total land area, and
there are nearly 23 million acres of rangeland and pasture-
land in Nebraska, half of that are in the Sandhills.
Continued get well wishes to John Stilwell, Cindy Bassinger,
and Pastor Sandy Denton. Healing thought to
Bruce Gerking of Burr.
From the large amount of vehicles around the Methodist
Church Sunday morning, we'd judge the ice cream social
there a huge success!
On phrasse to describe the Calcutta at the golf course over
the weekend? "Rain, rain, go away!"
The Christian Church parsonage will be available for rent
beginning September 10. It has 2 1/2 bedrooms and is $600.
