BOARD MEETING TONIGHT

(Wednesday, April 10th)

7:30 P.M. AT THE LIBRARY

PLEASE JOIN US!

The first Fastpitch game of the season will be Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

Remember that the intersection by the Park/Ballfield is a 4-way stop,

and the speed limit on that street is 25 m.p.h.

Please watch for ball players of all ages!

 Rest in peace

Sad to report the passing of Wilbur DeGolyer, former member of the

Christian church and former pastor, Andrew DeGolyer's father. Active in

many organizations, he will be missed.

If you're having trouble with your garbage pickup or didn't receive a container,

please call the Village Office. Please remember, the prices have stayed the

same and will be added to your water/sewer bill as always. NOTE: Papillion

Sanitation will not pick up garbage outside the container. You may call them

and get a second container for an extra fee, however you will be

billed directly from them.

recycle reduce reuse

Seems like we need a refresher on the recycle bin policy. THIS is what's

acceptable: cardboard broken down, magazines, newspapers,

etc (corral them in a disposable shopping bag), plastic with a recycle

symbol on it, tin and aluminum cans. WE DO NOT TAKE: glass, motor oil,

batteries, construction waste, household furniture or appliances,

grass clippings, or yard waste.

If still in doubt, please call the Village Office.

Have you planted any garden yet? Dang this weather! Since we were in

Nebraska City Saturday morning, we went to the Missouri River bridge and

saw for ourselves that Highway #2 is still under water as far as you can see.

Can't see that this situation is going to improve any time soon. When the

cashier asks if you would like to "round up" for flood relief, please say yes.

More 1949 trivia: Academy Award for Best Picture: "All the King's Men",

Best Actor: Broderick Crawford, Best Actress: Olivia De Havilland. The

top songs were: "Some Enchanted Evening" by Perry Como, "Mule Train"

by Frankie Lane, "Riders in the Sky" by Vaughn Monroe, and "You're

Breaking My Heart" by Vic Damone. Pretty much classics, all of them

just like the people born in 1949!

There are lots of new faces around town and lots more kids! Good to know

that Unadilla is still a good place to live.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

 Tea kettle 300

Friday, 4-11-1919, The Otoe Union:

A small tornado did considerable damage in West Russell. Notification

of William "Billie" Massie's death was received. Everyone was done sowing

oats before "getting more than our share of moisture this spring." (History

repeats itself?) From the editor: "A teakettle is a true optimist. Even when

it's up to it's neck in hot water, it keeps singing away."
