After nearly a year, Unadilla Area Fund will have a meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 10:00 a.m., at the Duncan Building, so we can social distance attendees. Please wear your masks!
This has been a strange year so far. We have all missed the annual Groundhog Day celebration. We think we have an Honorary King, but we are still looking for an Honorary Queen. If you're interested, please let us know. We are also trying to complete the list for past Grand Marshall's of the parade. If you can think of someone, please contact Bob Brandt or Bob Wilhelm. Thanks in advance for your help.
We have lots of new folks moving in to and around our town. Perhaps they can help by becoming members of our Fire & Rescue Squads. Meetings are the second Monday of every month at the Fire Hall. Gordon Hopp shared part of this article by Eric Moul of the Nebraska Forest Service: "With your eyes closed and breathing slowly, think of your loved ones or someone you have a deep admiration for. Now imagine that they had an emergency and dialed 911. Imagine that the services coming to help had no training and frankly refused to train. How effective will those services be to your loved ones or those you have a deep admiration for? With your eyes still closed do 5 or 6 cycles of breathing. Now open your eyes, walk to the mirror, and ask yourself, "Am I doing enough in my community as a volunteer firefighter/rescue squad member, to ensure my efficiency and effectiveness?" Say you and your peers are called to that 911 call, are you proficient in your skills to help your loved ones or the loved ones of your peers?" Please think about this and consider volunteering to help our community.
Newspaper clippings from Jane Lewis scrapbook:

March is Poison Prevention month. Have you checked your medicine cabinets and cupboards for outdated medicine or chemicals? How about the garage and the barn? Do you have toddlers visiting in the near future? Is there anything in reach of those small hands? Better safe than sorry!

Just a reminder that dog licenses expire on April 30th. Please have a current copy of your dog's rabies vaccination certificate when you renew. The fee is still $5.00 per animal. Also for new residents, the Village Office is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Their phone number is 402-828-5355.

Friday, 3-18-1921, The Otoe Union:
Ellis West, farmer and stock raiser, died March 13 of septic poisoning from a bad wound received from cultivating corn the summer before. He was laid to rest in the Unadilla Cemetery. E.N. Russell, (now the home of Gary Ganger), was rebuilding his barn. The farmers in North Russell were getting ready to plant oats and potatoes.
