UNADILLA PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
April 22, 2021 (Thursday) 7:30 p.m.
Continued good health to all our readers. As of Monday, we had 4 straight days with no new cases of Covid in Otoe County. At present there has been 1423 cases, which puts us at 1.2%. Stay safe everyone!

Saturday morning, April 18th, the Cemetery Board met at the home of Dean Luff. Masks and social distancing were used. Jerry Wallen and Andrew Kimbell joined us and became new members; others present were Dean Speth, Dean Luff, Bob & Barb Wilhelm, and Keith & Sandi Kimbell. Minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were approved. It was decided for now, not to replace the old fence; the trash barrels will be staked so trash can not blow around. Todd Krieger was again awarded the mowing contract. The price of burials/plots was raised to $300. Please join us on Memorial Day weekend for the putting up and taking down of the flags. If you would like to be a member at large, please contact Dean Luff. We can always use new ideas and extra hands.

Continued get well wishes to Steve Kroese and Leta Steinkuhler. Thinking of you both.
The Methodist Church has been holding Sunday morning services for awhile now. The Christian Church will start having services at the Park Shelter beginning Sunday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Slowly but surely, we're getting back to normal, but we must stay vigilant.

It has been decided officially, there will be NO dinner at the gym on Memorial Day, and NO Unadilla BBQ. There is the possibility of village wide garage sales. More on that later.
The Boy Scout crew finished picking up sticks and pine cones in the aboretum/park Sunday. A total of 24 scout hours were contributed to the park and triangle area southeast of Nitty Gritty. Scouts helping: Brody Brandt, Kaden Knake, Nolan Gartner, and Dayton Graves, plus leaders, Barry and Carrie Brandt. They did a great job cleaning up! And additional thanks to Bob Wilhelm, Dwight Kastens, Arlin Rohlfs, and Clayton Dowling for donating help to the cause.

John Stilwell noted that April 18, 1950, was the first opening day night game in the National Baseball League, and was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Not to be confused with the first ever night game in Major League Baseball history, which was May 24, 1935, at Crosley Field, Cincinnati, Ohio. President Franklin D. Roosevelt threw a ceremonial switch at the White House and the lights went on in Cincinnati!

Reminder: the area fenced in around the community center's first purpose is for the enjoyment and ball practice of children. You are more than welcome to bring your dog into it, just make sure you close the gate if you are going to take the leash off. And here's the major reason for the reminder: please refer to the first sentence and pick up the poop! We all share this wonderful facility, so let's keep it that way. Thank you!

Friday, 4-22-1921, The Otoe Union:
A snow storm hit over the weekend and "the fruit experts say the fruit is gone, for most of the trees were out in full bloom." W.M. Dreezen had his barn blown away and 2 horses killed, and James Lemon's barn was blown over in the same storm. The residents of Douglas had the worst damage.
