
The ceremony at the Unadilla Cemetery begins at 11 a.m. and is presented by the Palmyra Legion Post. Thanks to them for continuing this great tradition.
The flags will be raised at the Unadilla Cemetery Friday night, May 27, at 6 p.m. and will be taken down Monday night, May 30, at 6 p.m. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
The Memorial Day dinner will again be held at the Unadilla Community Center from 11:30 - 1:30, free will offering. The proceeds support the Unadilla Library, History Room, and Veterans Room. It is a great time to catch up with old friends.
Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at Hopewell Cemetery, a Veterans Memorial Tribute program will be held. The program is provided by the Bryan family with U.S. Army Col. (Ret.) John E. Bryan as the keynote speaker. All are welcome to attend.
The program at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse begins at 11 a.m. and will take place in the Veterans Circle. The program will include speakers, patriotic songs by the SHS Band, and placing of the wreaths by the Auxiliary.
The Village Office will be closed for the holiday on Friday, May 27th and Monday, May 30th.

Thanks so much to Judy Stoner Pope and Betty Tackett Abell for their donations to the Unadilla Cemetery. Betty has also donated another copy of the book she wrote about her Dad's military service, to the Community Center Library. It will be available for check out. If you haven't read it, you should, it's so interesting!

The Unadilla Cemetery Board held its annual meeting Saturday, May 21, at the home of Dean Luff. The minutes were read and approved, as was the treasurer's report. Dean Luff announced he would be stepping down to member-at-large, and Dean Speth announced his retirement from the Board. Others present: Keith Kimbell and Bob Wilhelm. Jerry Wallen was elected to take Luff's place as president. Barb Wilhelm will remain as Secretary-Treasurer for one more year. The meeting adjourned at 8:55 a.m.

Don't forget the Unadilla Farmer's Market will begin Saturday, June 4th, from 8 - 10 a.m. and will be located on the south side of Main Street, across from Mal's. Hope to see you there!


Continued get well wishes to those suffering from the latest ailment going around. Cold like symptoms, lots of coughing, and ear aches, to name a few. Be well friends.

"The Overland trail to Lincoln has been put in shape and is good throughout its length from Syracuse to Lincoln. The bad curve and bridge west of Paisley church has been completed and is now straight and clear." The Bank of Unadilla was predicting "good business conditions ahead." The editor commented, "The sea of matrimony is dotted with leaky boats."

REGULAR PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
April 21, 2022
The regular meeting of the Planning Commission of the Village of Unadilla, NE, was held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Community Center. Notice of said meeting was given by posting in the three following places with the village: Countryside Bank, Post Office, and Community Center message board, not published in the Syracuse Journal-Democrat, published on www.UnadillaNebraska.com. A copy of said notice was served to each member of the Planning Commission more than 10 days prior to the meeting date. Member’s present were Steve Vodicka, Joseph Peterson, Jake Unruh and Rod Wellsandt. Absent: Dan Anderson. Visitors: none
Vodicka reminded everyone of the location of the Open Meetings Act Poster.
Unruh made a motion to approve the April 2021 minutes, seconded by Peterson, motion carried 3-0.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Building permits issued in 2021: The following are the building permits that were issued in 2021:
Anderson 979 9th St., garden shed. Anderson 979 9th St., chain link fence. Munstermann 558 7th St, parking slab. Ryan 457 4th St, pole shed and applied for a variance for the shed height an additional 18”. Mosel 440 9th St, patio, fence, and sidewalk. Windhusen 262 N 22nd Rd, greenhouse. JTR Construction 250 10th St, residential home. Block 724 4th St, fence. Diltz 1040 B St, shed.
2. The upcoming Street Project was reviewed. Streets to be resurfaced are:
a. F St. from 7th St. to 9th St.
b. 9th St. from approx.. 50 ft W. of E St. to I St.
c. 6th St. from I to H St. (water line was replaced)
d. 6th St. from G St. to F. St. (water line was replaced)
e. H St. from Main St. to 6th St.
f. G St. from 130 ft N of Main St. to 4th St.
