The street resurfacing is going well. It will be such an improvement! The ones that are already finished are as smooth as can be and a pleasure to drive on! We don't envy the workers long days in the past heat, but hoping for a cool down this whole week...and a little more rain?
Give these guys the right of way!
Looking for a little day trip? How about the Humboldt Cancer Garden? What a hidden treasure! There are some new additions this year. It is well planned and well kept, and honors so many folks who have struggled with or lost their lives to cancer. It provides shelters for quiet reflection or conversations, and well worth the trip.
It's so nice to drive through town in the evenings and see all the cars on Main Street. Thank you Mal & Matt Wallen! Also, thanks to Dan & Bev Anderson...what would we do without Nitty Gritty Gas & Thrift?
We haven't had the best garden this year, but we have been canning tomatoes (stewed and juice) every couple of days, so no complaints here!
We are taking a break from working in the Resource Room at the Community Center. We will start working on Wednesdays again sometime after Labor Day. Come visit us!
In our travels over the weekend, we found ourselves cooling off in Lorton and found this little gem!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO
Friday, 8-18-1922, The Otoe Union:
James West received the news of the death of his brother Joseph, at Kit Carson, Colorado. Several carloads of men attended and participated in the state horseshoe tournament at Ashland. Adding water to the town would cost an estimated $17,400. After much discussion, it was voted to return the quote to Prine & Nixon and request a lower estimate. Victor E. Pratt, son of Ples, was struck and killed by lightning at Burlington, Cololrado.
