Chaps belonging to "MW"

Note found in pocket of chaps
Had an interesting phone call from a gentleman in Southern Illinois. He had purchased a pair of leather chaps and in getting ready to recondition them, he found a note in one of the pockets. It reads: MW. FROM UNADILLA, NEBRASKA IN OTOE COUNTY 40 MILE SW OF OMAHA, NEB. A PAWNEE INDIAN TRIBE IN THE AREA. He also stated that they are "stovepipe" chaps, which I gather are unusual, they buckle in the back, and the letters MW are carved into the leather.
My first thought was to go to the Freighters Museum in Nebr. City, as they have a list of all the freighters from 1850 - 1870. No luck there. They advertise they are open from 8 - 5 every day, but it was closed up, looked deserted, and there was a window broken out.
It then occurred to me thay maybe MW was MW Duncan, who had had a grocery store in Unadilla from the 1880's to about 1910, when he sold his business and moved to Muskogee, OK, where he purchased 100 city lots and went into business with his brother, who had located in Indian Territory there in the late 1800's. That's where our trail ends. The chaps were purchased at a shop in Galvaston, Texas, and the shop owner purchased them in Illinois. Open to any and all suggestions!!!
Last Tuesday the SDA 4th grade classes visited the Henry Dieken Prairie. Sounds like they had a great time and learned a lot!

Saturday, our family gathered at our daughter's home and we made homemade runzas, 3 double batches of them, 76 not counting those eaten! It was a lot of fun and it filled the hole in my freezer. Can hardly wait for soup and runza weather!
Welcome back to Unadilla Dennis Baker!
