Mark your calendar! The Food Bank will be at the Park this Friday afternoon, from 2 - 3 p.m.
We have noticed more bald eagle activity in the area. Eagle nests are constructed with large sticks, and may be lined with moss, grass, plant stalks, and other items, including sod. The nests are usually 4 - 6 feet across and about 3 feet deep; although the largest recorded was 9.5 feet across. They are often seen near the Nemaha River in our area. This photo was taken west of Syracuse and almost 1/2 mile from the road. When the field drys out and we get permission from the farmer, we will get better photos to share.
Only 2 more weeks until Spring! And with that will come the beginning of softball/baseball season. Some teams are beginning to practise now. It also means increased activity down at and around the ball park. Please remember the intersection by the Park is now a 4-way stop. Be on the lookout for our kids!
There are so many geese returning to the area! Aren't they a couple weeks early?
On Tuesday, February 21, Peggy Leefers and Sharon Demaree hosted the FCE Sundowners Club for a “Bear stuffing day“ at the Duncan building. Peggy and Sharon had started a project a few years back, making bears to give to brighten peoples day. To date over 300 bears have been made, stuffed and distributed. Many have went to children at the BeBrave Child Advocacy Cebter in Lincoln. Some have went to assisted living facilities. Some have went to families going through a difficult time. The Sundowners members had a great time stuffing 45 bears, visiting, and enjoying good food.
