On April 14th, the University of Missouri held the MU Remembers event to celebrate the lives of ten students and faculty and staff that had died in the past year. Brett Dettmer was honored as a Graduate Student in Education and Human Development. His name is displayed on the Tribute Plaque, flags were flown at half-mast, a book dedicated to him at Ellis Library and a Stole of Gratitude was given to his mom, Dawn Dettmer, and 16 other family members in attendance. MU President Choi said a place will be set for Brett at graduation in May, as that's whne he would have received his Master's Degree. He continues to be missed in this community.

ANALYSIS OF THE ECHO OF A DUCK'S QUACK
By Renowned Cub Reporter Bob Wilhelm
This past week we experienced a great deal of spirited discussion at the Paisley Bottom Coffee Shop and Critical Thinking Laboratory. It began when a hypothesis was thrown down stating that a duck's quack has no echo. There were strong opinions on the possible answers. Anecdotal accounts of past duck quacking experiences were recounted. Google searches were conducted. Those searches concluded that the "no echo" theory snuggles up to the urban myth category and that although a duck's quack does have an echo, it was acknowledged it is quite difficult to hear. If more information arises, we will keep you posted, posted, posted...
We spotted several fires over the weekend, it's that time of year again!

It's also this time of year again. Great looking garden Gary Seelhoff!

A year ago we were sharing photos of local tornado damage. There was some damage reported over the weekend, high winds, etc., but no tornado!
Got your hummingbird feeders cleaned and ready?

Reminder: the area fenced in around the Community Center's first purpose is for the enjoyment of children. You are more than welcome to bring your dog into it, just make sure you close the gate if you are going to take the leash off. And here's the major reason for the reminder: please refer to the first sentence and pick up the poop! We all share this wonderful facility, so let's keep it that way. Thank you!

We do love ourselves a bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa) around here, so we are delighted to name this lovely example from west Otoe County, submitted by Duane Nohavec, as April's Tree of the Month.
This big beauty can grow up to 100 feet with a 100 foot crown -- the bur oak is often wider than it is tall. You might be familiar with the bur oak's acorns, which are distinguished by very deep fringed cups and are the largest of all native oak acorns.
One of the most unique features of the bur oak is its ability to adapt to different growing conditions. It can thrive in a wide range of soils, from heavy clay to sandy loam, and it can tolerate drought, extreme temperatures, and even flooding. Its versatility is one of the many reasons we like it so much, in addition to the fact that although they do not produce nectar-laden flowers for insects, bur oaks are larval hosts for numerous species of butterflies and moths.
So go ahead, plant a bur oak. It will take a good long while to mature, but it will be well-worth the wait!
Thanks to Bob Brandt for sharing this article and photos.

NOW I ASK YOU, DO I REALLY LOOK LIKE HERMAN MUNSTER?
By Renowned Cub Reporter Bob Wilhelm
Over the years I have heard comments, some behind my back, and some even to my face, that I may have a huge resemblance to Herman Munster from the ever popular television series. Being the happy go lucky, live and let live, kind of guy that I am, I chose to avoid confrontation and turn a deaf hearing impared ear to those mean spirited and hateful lies. In Unadilla's rich history, then Govenor, and now U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts has often participated in the prestigious Groundhog Parade. The Legion/VFW Color Guard were honored to have our picture taken with the Govenor, after leading the parade, as they always do.

From left to right, these photos show Eldon Halm, Gerald Neeman, Gov. Ricketts, Keith Goering, and Bob Wilhelm. Just days ago, this photo was defiled and placed on public display. Someone, who has a very wide mean streak in them, and who is also bald, altered this patriotic image. Through photoshopping, they placed Herman Munster's face over that of our Renowned Cup Reporter's face. Now I ask my Unadilla Peeps, do I, Bob Wilhelm, really look like Herman Munster? The way people mess with me, if I were a dog, I would be a MEAN ONE!
