WISHING YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The Village Office will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24.
Sunday afternoon, Keith & Sandi Kimbell joined us for a trip to Omaha's Memorial Park to see the "Embracing Peace" statue. It is 25 feet tall (Bob is in the photo for comparison!) It was well worth the trip, even if it did spit rain on us all day. There are several other memorials in this park also, so if you get the chance to visit, you won't be sorry you went. Then we had lunch at our favorite pizza place. Our favorite is their "Hey Gouda Looking" pizza.
Here's hoping you have a fun and safe Thanksgiving. And now starts the Christmas frenzy; we know a lot will be purchased online, but please remember to patronize your local businesses if you can. And, as you're cleaning out those closets for places to hide presents, remember you can donate them at our hospital thrift shop in Syracuse. They are celebrating their 16th year! Besides giving those items new life, they also donate to those in need at our local schools. We appreciate what they do so much!
On Saturday the Unadilla Community Library hosted author John Mabry for a book signing. John wrote “Nebraska Volleyball — The Origin Story” which tells the story of the early years of the volleyball program. Kathy Drewes (#32-played 1968 thru 1971) came with him. Other players — Jan Cheney Svoboda (#54 — played 1967 thru 1971) and Karen Ostrander Stoner (#12 — played 1968 thru 1972) came and joined them. It was such fun listening to them reminiscing.
If you missed the event and wish to get an autographed copy, contact Sue Saathoff 402-269-5748 or stop into the library — Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. or Saturday 9 to 11 a.m. We’ll take your information!!
Remember this place from your childhood? It belonged to Jake Helm and after it was empty, we were sure it was haunted!

Friday, 11-23-1923, The Otoe Union:
"Dorothy Lee's Game", a short story by Ruby McCormick, was published in the paper. Dr. W.E. Kendle was the dentist at Syracuse; Unadilla no longer had one. The community finished husking corn (850 bushels) for Charles Stedman. Plans for the annual corn show were being made.
