If you're driving by the Fire Station, you will also notice they have a new sign. What a great bunch of devoted people. We're so lucky to have them!

Thank you to the folks from the Otoe County Museum of Memories for coming to visit our "rooms". Got some great ideas from them. When is the last time you visited? They will be open on Memorial Day during the luncheon.
This is the current quilt on display at the Unadilla Community Library. It was made by Jan Maloy. Love it!!!

Reminder: the area fenced in around the Community Center's first purpose is for the enjoyment of children. You are more than welcome to bring your dog/pets into it, just make sure you close the gate if you are going to take the leash off. And here's the major reason for the reminder: please refer to the first sentence and pick up the poop! We all share this wonderful facility, so let's keep it that way. Thank you!
Is it just us or are the beavers getting used to us humans? This is between Unadilla and Syracuse on old Highway #2.The dam and the tree they chewed up.

I LOVE BEING FROM A SMALL TOWN
By Renowned Cub Reporter Bob Wilhelm
The things that make small towns unique: This past Sunday morning on my way to breakfast at Nitty Gritty Gas N' Thrift, I went past the beautiful Unadilla Park. I noticed an out of state vehicle backed into the parking area with two people seemingly sleeping in the front seat. I continued on my way, and joined the ususal gathering crowd of locals.
Shortly after this, I saw the vehicle that had been at the park, pull up. Two older gentlemen came into the store and made their purchases and sat down and began to talk with us. One of the travelers was 80 years old and the other was 91. They were from Oregon and on day 28 of what they called a drive about. The older gentleman said they travel together often, and this time the youngster asked him if he wanted to go on drive about; asked him where they were going and he did not know; asked him how long they would be gone, and he did not know that either. So, the oldster said sure, let's go, and they did!
The oldster lives in a village of 160 people and said he made a living driving a logging truck until he turned 90. Then his insurance company said that was enough for them. He talked about hauling logs off Mount St. Helens after it blew up, and the devastation he saw. The youngster worked for the Forest Service, and helped design roads through the logging country.
Both men said they lived on the east side of the state because people on the west side, which includes Portland, were "different" and quite liberal. They said those on the east side were "normal" and more conservative! I believe the geographical distinction between the east and west sides is determined by the Cascade Mountain range.
It was clear that everyone at the table enjoyed our visit. The old timers assured us that their loved ones had trackers on their phones and then they thanked us for our time, and drove off over the west horizon. I LOVE BEING FROM A SMALL TOWN!

The Bluebird Conference is coming right up!
