FOOD BANK AT THE PARK THIS FRIDAY (5-3)
2 - 3 p.m. Please share this!

It's almost that time of year again. If you have family in either of these cemeteries, they can always use your help to defer mowing costs.

Congratulations to Ben & Maci Goff on the birth of their son, Hunter James.
A benefit was held for Sharon Van Housen this last Saturday, and due to the weather, had to be moved from the Park to the Duncan Building. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Our condolences to the family of Shirley (Kramer) Honeycutt, who recently passed away. Her children are Kim Martacho, Candy Jacobsen, Butch Holscher, and Robin Berner. Shirley was a crafter, gardener, and truck driver, among many other things. I have so many fond memories of her. A lot of us detasseled corn (back in the day!!!), and Shirley was responsible for our transportation, supervising us in the field, and slathering us with sunburn protection. It always amazed me that no matter how hot or rainy it was, she always dealt with us calmly, had the answer to whatever problems we had, and always reminded us to look our best. What a gal...she will be missed!

Saturday, Mary Hanke, Amy Hanke, Jenn Hitzemann, Michele Wilhelm, and I, headed to Nissen Winery, at Hartington, NE. The boys are our distant cousins and put out some darn good wine. Then we tried a new place, Native 32 Winery, near West Point, NE. They also had some great wine, and theirs is made from berries, not grapes. It was a great time, even though it rained on us most of the day. Next on the agenda: hitting all the wineries around Otoe County!

We're coming right up on the end of the school year...where did the time go?
Graduation: May 11
Last Day of School: May 22

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 5-2-1924, The Otoe Union:
Men representing several towns around Nebr.City, met and discussed the routing of the "Harding National Highway", which would come from Shenandoah, IA, through Nebr. City, and on to Lincoln. It would connect with the Lincoln Highway at Lincoln, and follow it to Denver. "Henry Gartner, Sr., had all of his teeth pulled and now needs two men to hold his pipe while he smokes."
