VILLAGE BOARD MEETING TONIGHT (Wednesday)
At the Library 7:30 p.m.
SDA Graduation, this Saturday, May 11th
Congratulations to all the local graduates! It's always rewarding to talk to them and hear their plans. We raise some really great kids in Otoe County!
Last day of school: May 22nd
Thank you to these folks who helped with the Lincoln Food Bank distribution: Bob Wilhelm, Mark Clem, Jerry Wallen, Dale Henke, Craig Kimbell, Mary Wallen, Galen Crawford, and Andrew Kimbell. And thanks also to Linda Liesemeyer and Janet Oelke, who delivered to those unable to attend. Altogether they served 102 families.
Congratulations to Dylan & Cali Bartling on the birth of their daughter. She has two big brothers, Axel and Boden.
The History and Veterans Rooms will also be open.
Gordon Hopp was inducted into the BAN (Bluebirds Across Nebraska) Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at the Unadilla Community Center, for his many years of putting up and checking bluebird boxes, and his dedication to their well being. Congratulations Gordy!
How long has it been since you've visited the GAR Museum in Nebr. City? We were looking for information on Bob's great-grandfather, which we didn't find anything we didn't already know. But, there are lots of new displays and the young man that was working there was so helpful. Entry fee is a free will donation, and it's worth the trip.
The Flood of 1950
By: Renowned Cub Reporter Bob Wilhelm
Discussion at the Paisley Bottom Coffee Shop and Critical Thinking Laboratory was steered to a historical event. Comments by our Elder John, reported that 74 years ago, May 8th was the beginning of the flood of 1950. This flood was horrific for it's loss of life and damage to communities along the Nemaha and other rivers in Southeast Nebraska.
Railroad tracks along old Highway #2
John said that with each lightening flash, he could see the river bottom south of Palmyra covered in water. Newspaper accounts reported 11 lives were lost in southeastern Nebraska. A bus swept off the old Highway 2 between Unadilla and Syracuse, near Bob and Tony Engelbrecht's farms.

These photos show the power of flood waters. Other information and photos of the flood are on display in the History Room at the Unadilla Community Center.
