Don't forget to change your clocks before you go to bed Saturday night!

The Food Bank will be at the Park this Friday from 2 - 3 p.m. All are welcome!

Monday night we attended the SDA Winter Band Recital directed by Brandy Hall. All the kids did an amazing job! The two baritone players in the back row are Gavin Wardyn (back left) and grandson Brody Hitzemann (back right). Apologies to Olivia Foley for not getting a good photo of her.

March is Poison Prevention month. Have you checked your medicine cabinets and cupboards for outdated medicines or chemicals? Is there anything in reach of small hands? Better safe than sorry!

This northern pecan tree, "Cara Illinoinensis", is a deciduous nut tree, which is the only native nut tree in the continental United States. It is found in the forested areas along the Mississippi River. This tree was planted in the mid 1980's and is located 25' off the paved street one block southeast of Nitty Gritty. It's 35' tall with a well-shaped, rounded crown. These trees produce pecans as early as 10 years old and are edible and easily grafted in order to produce desirable quality pecan in orchards. They are generally planted in 35' spacing in orchards, or as shade trees in residential settings, especially in "sustainable yardscapes". Pecans are not left as litter on the ground, like walnuts, due to the fact that squirrels find them a delicacy and harvest them soon after they hit the ground! Indians planted these trees as trail markers and used the pecans as currancy before the land was settled by the pioneers. (Thanks for contributing Bob Brandt!)

Advice from some beekeepers: Let your garden sleep in and wait to clean up until after we have a week of temps in the 50's or above. Pollinators are still sleeping in plant stems and leaves!

This is a photo from our "Bird Buddy" birdfeeder - not just for birds apparently!
