Farming is a dangerous vocation...
On July 14th, while cleaning old soybeans out of a grain cart, Jerry Wallen slipped and caught his leg and foot between the cage and the grain auger. Fortunately, his nephew was present and shut off the PTO and called 911. Two Otoe County deputies arrived first and helped get Jerry out of the grain cart. He was taken to Bryan West hospital in Lincoln. Shelby says he is still in the hospital and has undergone three surgeries with more on the way. The doctor is happy with how the muscle looks. He will have a long recovery for things to get back to normal but they are optimistic he will have a fully functional leg assuming there are no infections. There were no broken bones or nerve damage and he has all ten fingers and toes. Shelby says they are so appreciative of all the cards, calls, visits and prayers that they have received.
