Former resident, Kathie Juilfs, and Vaughn Hackstadt
were married at Kathie's home in Syracuse on July 24th.
It was a tropical themed event with about 20 close
friends and family attending. Pastor Steve Billington
officiated and his wife, Deb, sang. Keith & Alberta Block
were the witnesses. The couple prepared
a nice array of food, and the patio was decorated with
tropical plants and luminaries. Sharon Carman baked the
cake, which was a seascape with palm trees.
Kathie & Vaughn knew each other in high school, but only
got reacquainted slightly over a year ago. They both
enjoy music and keep busy entertaining in the area.
Congratulations!

Bev Wilhelm hosted a barbeque last Thursday night,
so family members could meet Landon Scott
Wilhelm, son of Jeff & Trisha Wilhelm, Republican City.
They visited Grandpa Vern and then met cousins Livia,
Halle, & Reagan Wilhelm, and Maisie & Madison Hillman.
It was a great time for the kids and the grownups!
(Nick, you did a great job on the burgers.)

Remember the importance of walking -
My grandpa started walking five miles a day when
he was 60. Now he's 97 and we don't know where
he is!

Monday night was the Veteran's Parade in Syracuse.
There was a good attendance, with the floats ending
up by the Fair Building so all could hear the speaker.
Participants were then treated to lunch at the Post
Home. Bob Wilhelm reports Bingo receipts were
down from last year, but the event was still a success.
A huge THANK YOU to all the workers and the players.

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the THIRTEENTH
ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE.
This historical, hysterical event will take place
on Sunday, October 11, at 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium
of the Old Avoca Schoolhouse. In the Open Division,
fiddlers will play a hoedown, waltz, and a tune of
choice. There will also be other divisions of competition
available for the adventurous fiddlers, including
a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's
contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's contest (fiddle
tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle),
and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound
effects, dancing, etc.) which will give fiddlers an
opportunity to play tunes that are usually not
allowed in any other contest. The prizes for the winners
in Open Division are $100 for first place, $50 for
second place, and $25 for third place. Prizes will also
be awarded for 1st place in other contests. Registration
for contestants starts at 1:30 p.m the day of the BEE.
Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
Fiddlers and their backups are admitted for free.
