If people aren't cleaning up leaves and gardens,
they're hauling grain to the elevator! Harvesting has
reached a frantic pace.

For those of you who haven't been back home in awhile,
the big mulberry tree at the park was designated
as a Nebraska Heritage Tree in 2007.
Right now it looks a lot like a spider!

Received via email:
Thank you to the Unadilla Christian Church for the quilt
that I won. I haven't seen it yet but am assured, by all the threats
from the Crownover women indicating I might not get it,
that it must be beautiful. I will depend on all of you to remind
them that it was my name on the ticket, as my husband
reminds me every day, that he wrote it there!
Thank you all and I really look forward to seeing
the hard work you all put into it.
Blessings,
Candy Crownover

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will hold its November 12th
meeting at the Morton-James Public Library. This meeting will
welcome all new members into the society, and will also cover topics
of interest concerning research in the Otoe County area. The
meeting is open to all who are interested in joining the society, or just
wish to attend to learn more about genealogical research in general.
The quarterly Genealogy Internet Workshop
will be conducted. For those that prefer to research their ancestors
through more conventional means, the library's Genealogical
Reference Room will be open at this time, and assistance will be
provided by society members in this area as well.
Hope to see you there!

The Lofte takes great pride in utilizing the performing
arts to give young people self-confidence and public speaking
skills. In that tradition, the Lofte is preparing to host not one,
not two, but three different high school one-act play
competitions this fall! In recent years, the Lofte has
become a popular location for these types of competitions. Its
central location, friendly volunteers, and authentic
theater environment are three reasons why school
administrators keep coming back.
All competitions are open to the public. In general, the
competition days begin around 9 a.m. Schools will take
turns performing a 30 minute piece, then there is a 15
minute break to allow for set changes and judges critique.
The competition will last all day. Concessions will be available
for purchase throughout the day with tables and
seating in the lobby. Below is a list of competition dates and
