LOCAL NEWS
April books featured at the Unadilla Community Library will include
a selection of quilt making books donated by the quilt guild in
Nebraska City. These books feature patterns from the
Kansas City Star newspaper. The author for the month of April
is James Patterson. Come in and check out these books -
we have a great selection of diverse authors on many subjects!

On March 25th, Eileen Isaacs celebrated her ? birthday
with Edra & Melton Dixon, Otoe; Alma Pierson, Carla Snyder,
and Kaylee Cardinal, Syracuse; and Dale & Karen Isaacs, Unadilla.
They met for lunch at the local restaurant and then went to
Dale & Karen's to open presents and eat cake & ice cream.
Eileen also received a call from her brother Joy, in Oregon,
and her brother Vernie, in Missouri.

Dale Stubbendick celebrated his 95th birthday March 20th,
but due to illness, was not able to attend his party. We hear
everyone else had a good time! Dale is at Linden View
Assisted Living.

Andrew Kimbell returned home from an interview/ski vacation
to Winterpark, CO. He was so sad to learn he had missed an
outing with his parents and the Wilhelm's!

Friday, 4-1-1910, The Otoe Union:
Wild plum trees were in full bloom. The Supreme Court handed
down a decision that women could hold a county office.
Mart Rorabeck returned from Ohio. Rev Sayles would
be the new pastor at the Christian Church. Sena Hartzell
Wallace, Kansas City, was in town to organize a chapter of the
Women's Christian Temperance Union.

OTOE COUNTY RURAL SCHOOLS REUNION
On April 10th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Otoe County Genealogical
Society will host its 1st Annual Otoe County Rural Schools Reunion
at Harmony School, 6265 "Q" Road, which is located 8 miles south
of Nebraska City on Hwy #75, and 1/2 mile west on "Q" Road.
Harmony School is a rural schoolhouse that was built in 1879, and was
closed in 1997. This reunion will include a coffee social and tour
of the 130-year old schoolhouse. In addition, it will also give visitors
a chance to assist our society in identifying numerous rural school
photographs from several different districts throughout the county.
The society has come into possession of these prized photographs
through the Otoe County Courthouse Clean-Up Project. The photos
were donated by the Otoe County Clerk's office, and other donations.
PLEASE, come join us at Harmony School and help us pay tribute to
these buildings that contributed so much to the education of our
youth for over 100 years!

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will host it's quarterly Genealogy
Internet Workshop at the Morton-James Public Library in Nebraska
City on April 8th at 7:00 pm. This workshop will cover how to utilize
numerous websites to assist you in your research. The library has access
to Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest, both of which have online records
of the U.S. Federal Census' and to thousands of other valuable data
bases as well. So please come join us, and bring along a copy of your
family tree so you can fill in some of those missing gaps.

SEA SONGS AND OTHER WATERY TALES
A new family show suitable for all ages, the musical
presentation features a variety of water inspired songs
accompanied by penny whistles, recorders, harmonica,
banjo, guitar, folk harp, musical saw, and rain stick.
The concert takes place on Sunday, April 11th
2:30 pm in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse.

Spring is in the air! The roads are clear, the birds are singing and there's
a new comedy opening at Mahoney State Park. "Having a Wonderful
Time, Wish You Were Here" is a wild bedroom comedy by Billy Van Zandt
and Jane Millmore. Directed by Kevin Colbert, it is filled with
double standards, midnight rendezvous, and a hungry bear. If you don't
like to laugh, you'd better stay away from this one. PG13 is suggested
for some adult situations.
Performance dates are March 13-14, 19-21,26-28, April 3, 9-11,
and 16-18. Fridays & Saturdays, 7:30 pm; Sundays 2:00 pm.
$8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children 12 and under. Dinner theater

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley will be holding auditions for
"Heaven Can Wait" on April 5 & 6 at 7 pm. There are 7 principal
parts for men and women ages 20 and up, 11 minor parts for men and
women 18 and up. Everyone, including those with little or no theater
experience, are encouraged to participate.
Performance dates are May 28-30, June 4-6, and 10-13.
