On August 13, 2010, Gov. Dave Heinemann will travel to the panhandle
of Nebraska to dedicate 20 acres of historical land as hallowed
ground and the site of Nebraska's first state Veteran's cemetery.
On this site, over 30,000 men trained for a mission that would help
Europe's long nightmare of WWII by learning how to jump from
planes and gliders. Many never returned home. Nebraska Veteran's
Cemetery is located 3 miles east of Alliance and has the capacity for
over 8000 interments. There are many other events planned for the
weekend. (Registering for burial will also be available.)
