Thanks to the family of Don Lewis for their generous donation

to the Unadilla Cemetery

The 21st Annual Groundhog Classic Golf Tournament was held at the

Syracuse Country Club with 99 golfers present. Orange shirts

were worn by over half the golfers to help promote the official

color of the Groundhog Day Celebration! The winners of the

tournament are as follows:

Spam Flight - (63), Cathy, Bill, & Kelly Morrissey

First Flight - (64) Greg Gilg, Dick Stock, & Barb Brandt

Second Flight - (64) Mike Carlson, Rob Hardman, & Alice Gee

Over $3000 in prizes were awarded and over $2100

was donated to Pheasants Forever and the

Boy Scouts of America.

on Saturday, february 5, 2011.

The Unadilla Safety Committee met Thursday, September 9, and the

subject was "Keep Your Employees Safe at Home, Too". Information

was provided by Bob Perry, Loss Control Manager for

LARM and LNM and it addressed many types of falls.

Falls in the home are the second leading cause of accidental death

in most communities, surpassed only by car crashes. Falls are

also the second leading cause of accidental death within the

home; poisonings being the leading cause.

Safety Committee members are Dwight Kastens, Arliss

Wassenberg, and Barb Wilhelm. If you would like a copy of

The Legion Auxiliary "Parade of Veterans" committee met

Thursday afternoon at the Post Home. Dust off your photos ,

papers, old uniforms, and other memoribilia from your or a

loved one's time in service from any war or conflict.

The displays will be available for viewing 11-7 through 11-13.

Barb Wilhelm and Mary Hanke attended the OCGS meeting

in Nebraska City Thursday night. Tina Wells from the Family

History Center in Lincoln gave a very interesting presentation.

President Wolbert reported that copies of the Societie's

"Otoe County Cemeteries" CD and the "Unadilla Residents"

CD (compiled by yours truly), were donated to the

Mid-Continent Public Library Genealogy Research Center

in Independence, Missouri.

Fisk cousins Janet Lind, Sheila Zavodny, Mary Hanke, and

Barb Wilhelm got together Saturday evening to look at old

photos and revisit past events. It was a good time -

the food and wine weren't bad either!

Friday, 9-16-1910, The Otoe Union:

A daughter was born to Robert McManns'. Rev Sayles was taking

a medical course. Sylvia Barrett left for Bellevue where she would

teach 5th & 6th grades. Birney Keach took charge of the

telephone office. E. Coates, proprietor of the Commercial House,

bought a restaurant in University Place. There were 30 students

enrolled in the Primary room, 28 in Intermediate, and 27 in the

High School.

To celebrate the beginning of the fall season, The Otoe County

Genealogical Society will host a "Fall Foliage Wyuka Tour" at

6:00 pm on October 14th at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Guests can enjoy the beauty of Nebraska's oldest public

cemetery while Wyuka historian, Don Hegr, guides them on

a 2-hour tour of the cemetery grounds. Don will cover not

only the history of this prestigious cemetery, but will also

share stories about some of Wyuka's prominent (and not

so prominent) residents buried there as well. In addition,

Wyuka's Cemetery's book

 "Wyuka, A place of rest: Nebraska City's Pioneer Cemetery"

will be available for purchase before and after the tour.
