Did you know recycling just one aluminum can saves enough

energy to run a computer or television set for 3 hours?

It takes 95% less energy to make a new aluminum can  from

a recycled can.

Library Board minutes submitted by Alberta Block:

The meeting was held February 22, 2011, at 4:00 pm.

Those present were: Peggy Leefers, Jean Lucas, Lois Ebert,

Rose Marie Brandt, and Alberta Block. The minutes of the

last meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer reported

a balance of $2607.00. This includes income from the

All Fund Drive, Groundhog Day events and book sales, and

a memorial given in memory of Phyllis Pickerill. Expenses were

$330.89, all being book purchases.

Peggy reported that the Groundhog Day Open House was very

successful, with approximately 100 people coming in to use the

library and browse through the rummage sale. The survey sheets

filled out indicated that the majority of folks would like to see

the library continue being open on Tuesday evenings, and

possibly Saturday mornings, or another evening. Several

volunteers signed up to help at the library. There seems to be

interest in purchasing more biographies, historical books, and

a variety of other genres.

The purchase of a neon sign to place in the window when the

library is open, was discussed. It was also decided to get a

"Library" sign for the door or window. A motion was made by

Jean Lucas and seconded by Lois Ebert, to look into having book

shelves built using some of the Pickerill memorial money. Peggy

will find someone to build them. Seeking matching funds for some

of the recent income was discussed and will be researched.

In view of the fact that we are just reorganizing the library

and the building, it was decided to not offer any scholarships

this year, but possibly do something for the community. It was

decided to continue the Tuesday hours, and add Saturday

mornings from 9 a.m. to noon beginning March 5th. Coffee and

cookies will be available for a few Saturdays.

Peggy reported that the computers are now on line and the

library phone is 402.828.4655 (same as the school number

had been.) Extra lighting is needed, especially in the fiction

section, to make it easier to see in the aisles. New books to

order were chosen. Some of the exising paperbacks are being

processed to keep the inventory up to date.

There being no other business, the meeting adjourned

at 5:55 p.m.

New books just in: "The Help", "East to the Dawn", "The Life

of Amelia Earhart", "What Difference Do It Make", and some

new children's books. Coming soon: "90 Minutes in Heaven",

"Cross Fire", and "Some Sing, Some Cry". Please, join us and

let us know who YOUR favorite authors are!
