Peggy Leefers reports a special preschool section is being created
for children 2-4 and new books will be in soon. Latest arrivals
include: "Cleopatra" and "The Art of Racing in the Rain".
A huge Thank-you to Paul & Tiffany Tingler and Jane Wendt
for their generous donations of books. Join the library staff
on Saturday mornings from 9 am - Noon - they'll have the
coffeepot on!

About 45 attended the annual Legion birthday party March 8
at the Syracuse Country Club. Bob Wilhelm and crew served
corn beef and cabbage and the Legion Auxiliary provided the
birthday cake.

Nina Jean Rohlfs provided entertainment by linking specific
songs and hymns to each war starting with the Civil War.

It was a most enjoyable evening. Those attending from Unadilla
were Ron & Lois Johnson, Keith & Sandi Kimbell, Ralph Tipken,
Gordon Hopp, and Bob & Barb Wilhelm.

3-17-1911, The Otoe Union:
Several children were sick with smallpox or scarlet fever.
John Meek rented his fruit farm near Hopewell for an experimental
station; Guy Hall would be in charge. George Russell,
J.H. West, and Paul Naeve were running for the Village Board.
The Fred Lyon family moved to Clifton, Kansas. Charlie and
Willie Reelhe were new pupils at the school.

KBC Productions and Mahoney State Park announces the
romantic comedy, "Suitehearts" will begin its spring
theater season run on March 25. The story revolves
around two newlywed couples who are mistakenly double-
booked in the same honeymoon suite.

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will host its 2nd
Annual Otoe County Rural Schools Reunion from
10:00 am to 2:00 pm on April 2, 2011, at
Harmony School, which is located at 6265 "Q" Road
(8 miles south of Nebraska City on Highway #75,
and 1/2 mile west on "Q" Road)
Harmony School is a rural schoolhouse that was built in
1879 and was closed in 1997. It was purchased at a public
auction in 1999, and was placed on the National Register of
Historic Places in 2005

The Otoe County Genealogical Society will be the local host
society for the 34th Annual Nebraska State Genealogical
Society Conference, held at the Nebraska City First United
Methodist Church, May 6th & 7th. The conference will feature
nationally renown speaker, Gail Blankenau, whose presentations
include: Breaking Through Land Records, Introduction to German
Parish Records, Dating and Identifying Your 19th Century
Photographs, Keeping up with the Jonses...and Smiths, and
Rich Resources for Poor Ancestors. Cost for the 2-day
conference is $75.00 and a 1-day session is $40.00
