Unadilla Day started off with blinking electricity and a downpour of rain. Rural residents were without electricity until about 5:30 a.m. and the power went off again about 3:30 p.m. The garage sales started at 8:00 a.m. but yard sales were pushed back due to the weather.

Susanna Porter writes: "Thank you to everybody that supported and participated in the Fun Run/Walk! Together we raised over $345 for the Unadilla Foundation. The race was postponed to 11:00 a.m. due to severe weather (aka lightning). We had amazing runners and powerful walkers of all ages. Special thanks to Andrea, Nicole, and Madalynne Stubbendick for technical race assistance, Dwight Kastens & the Village Board for use of their equipment, Unadilla Fire & Rescue for being on stand-by, and sponsors Dan's Tire, MK Meats, TR Unadilla Mart, and Countryside Bank. Let's do it again next year!"

Congratulations to the winners: Men's Division: Grant Aden 1st, Jim Klaasmeyer 2nd, and Tyler Crownover 3rd. Women's Division: Kim Goering 1st, Heather Williams 2nd, and Janet Johnson 3rd. Youth Division: Riley Porter. Children's Division: Aprille Johnson (who ran all the way!) 1st, Emma Porter 2nd, and Elizabeth Johnson 3rd. Honorable mention: Larry Arnold, oldest runner, and Angela Parsons, for pushing the youngest ones uphill in a stroller!

Dan Masters and Orchaard Hill Catering provided a wonderful evening meal of barbequed ribs, half chicken, and pulled pork. Approximately 350 people were fed. While eating, attendees were treated to the music by the Southeast Nebraska Community Band. They were excellent, as usual, and it was nice to see Lois Wellman, who worked at the Unadilla Bank for many years. Several got to visit with Rachel Block Dirkse, who was present for the dedication of the Park Shelter/Kitchen. She started off this project by donating memorial money in remembrance of her parents, John and Marjory O. Block. The Kimmel Foundation provided a matching 2 for 1 grant to finish the project. Other major contributors are listed on a plaque underneath the shelter.

To end the evening, Charlotte Endorf portrayed Annie Oakley, speaking about her career as a sharpshooter, and many other endeavors. She was dressed in period costume and took questions before and after the program. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. Charlotte came to us through the Nebraska Humanities Council.

Thanks to ALL the volunteers, the Village Board, and the Community Foundation. It was a group effort and we couldn't have done it without you; kudos to Susanna and the young ladies of Girl Scout Troop 21 for their assistance in the serving line and clean-up, it was most appreciated. And last but not least, thanks to Bob Wilhelm for the photos.

Bev Crownover, Sandi Kimbell, Berdean West, and "Pat" went to South Dakota last week to visit the Todd Crownover family. They also stopped at Gavin's Point Dam to see the water released. Sandi has video and is it loud!
