I need your help again! Mary Gartner lent me this photo of School District #108, Russell Creek School, and I would like to find out who the rest of the students and the teacher are.
The boy second left from the teacher is Gary Gartner and the girl in the front row is Edra (Isaacs) Dixon.

The Cemetery Board met Saturday morning, April 7th, in Room #1 of the Community Center. Those present: Dean Speth, Lynn Pickerill, Keith Kimbell, Dean Luff, Sandi Kimbell, and Barb Wilhelm. Wilhelm reported that 8 redbud and 7 oak trees had been planted at the cemetery by Bob Brandt and Bob Wilhelm. Adding more flag poles was discussed; Wilhelm will order 6 additional casket flags. Officers will remain the same for the upcoming year. A clean-up will be held Monday, April 9th at 6 pm. If you would like to help construct a burial directory at the cemetery, please, contact any of the board members. Flags will be raised the Saturday before Memorial Day at 6:30 am. and taken down Memorial Day at 6:00 pm.

Tuesday, April 3, Janet Dieckgrafe, Cook, gave a wonderful presentation to the Legion Auxiliary on her experience serving in the Peace Corps in Turkmenistan. The country is located near Iran and Afghanistan, and Janet served there for 24 months. Her slide show gave us a peek into their everyday life, how hard they worked, and how they prepared and ate their meals. The photo slideshow was amazing. Janet also told us that she worked in the community where she lived with her host family. She came dressed in traditional attire, and brought some mementos he had gathered, as well as several examples of their beautiful fabric. Janet also reminded us that President Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961 to promote world peace and understanding. The three goals of the Peace Corps are: agriculture, to educate other countries about America, and to educate America about other countries. If you have the opportunity to meet Janet, you will see that she is an amazing young woman, and a perfect example of good will to other nations.

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

Friday, 4-12-1912, The Otoe Union:
R. Reasoner, local Burlington agent, suggested summer travel to the Pacific Coast, Yellowstone Park, and Estes Park, all less than $60. O.M. Sasseen began carrying farm implements at his blacksmith shop. The Botsford building (part of M.K. Meats) was almost done and would be occupied by Mrs. W.F. Hair and Miss Botsford as a millinery store. The business men of Unadilla organized a Commercial Club. "Freddy and Fairy Lucas were coming home from school Monday when the horse they were driving was frightened by a passing auto. They were thrown out but not seriously injured, but the buggy was somewhat of a wreck.
