Teresa & Bruce Liesemeyer, Unadilla, recently drove to Lenois City, Tennessee, to visit with their friends Ricky & Becky Atkins. From there they drove to Quantico, Virginia, to the home of their son, Capt Jason & Lori Berner, Kody, Logan, and Mitchell. They spent 2 days at Virginia Beach having fun on the coast and toured Montpelier, the home of President James Madison, and the old town of Fredricksburg. They got to celebrate with Kody on his 13th birthday, and they also got to attend Kody's band concert, where he played the trumpent. They drove through 12 states and stopped mostly at locally-owned restaurants along the way to dine.

Everyone had a great time on the OCGS Tombstone Tour, Sunday afternoon, May 20th.Their first stop was the Evangelical (Deleware) Church where Mona Kuhlenengel gave us a tour pointing out unusual tombstones, the first burial, and the meaning of different symbols on tombstones.

Delaware

The next stop was St. Paul's Lutheran near Lorton, where Duane Arends gave the tour, showing us where the church had stood, and where the congregants had each brought a stone to be placed on the memorial that now houses the church's bell.

St Pauls

We also visited the site of Walter Fleischmann's grave who was also known as Anthony "Tony" Dexter, early movie star. The last stop was Camp Creek Cemetery south of Nebraska City. Manyu pioneer families can trace their ancestry to some one buried there. The tour was led by Lucille Sharp, who also has many relatives in the cemetery. One of the most notable burials is that of Barbara Kagi Mayhew, and her sister, Mary Kagi Davis, whose family were all involved in the Underground Railroad.

Camp Creek_Chapel

The chapel was open to tour. In between stops, there were snacks, refreshments, and prize drawings.

Friday, 5-24-1912, The Otoe Union:

Henry Guthals won the talking machine at Horstman & Parker's by delivering 78 dozen eggs at once. A soil survey was to be done on the entire Otoe County. Farmers were "rushing the corn planting" in North Russell. "The Village Board is having sign posts erected at the entrance on public roads, warning auto drivers not to exceed the 10 mph speed limit. The fine for its violation is $25.00." The Board was also lobbying the county to move the courthouse here, stating we were the center of the county.
