Fire of_1911

Fighting the fire of 1911

Barb Wilhelm was the featured speaker at the Mary Katherine Goddard Chapter of the DAR meeting on June 13th. She gave a slide presentation of Unadilla's history, the fire of 1911, and how Main Street came to be on the National Historic Register. Thanks to Mary Hanke for all the technical support!

Don Larson

OCGS member Don Larson "witching" at the

Syracuse cemetery

Saturday, June 16, OCGS members hosted a "witching" workshop at the Unadilla and Syracuse cemeteries with 34 "gravers" in attendance. Three different methods of witching were demonstrated, and it was amazing to see that even though different methods and different types of wire were used, the results were usually the same. (We know, we have a strange hobby!)

The Wilhelm's got in lots of grandson time over the weekend, as the Hitzemann's stopped overnight on their way to a wedding at Dunning, NE. Even though Madison had just gotten out of the hospital Friday afternoon, she, Maisie, Michele, and Matt also joined us.

Hickman 1_resized

From the Hickman's: Hey to Unadilla. We took Matt to Hong Kong for his 21st birthday over Memorial Day weekend. It was a fabulous trip, very un-China, as the British influence is still very strong there. They drive on the wrong side of the road, and everyone speaks with a Bristish accent, no matter their nationality. Stanley, named for Lord Stanley, the 14th Earl of Derby, was a really cool town on the southeastern side of Hong Kong Island. Lots of bars and shopping, and very few people (at least under a couple of million.) We took a jet ferry boat over to Macau for some gambling fun. Very high stakes, and we didn't come back millionaires, but a great side trip anyway.
