The Fort Collins, CO, girls softball team, ages 14 and under,

played in a tournament in Bellevue recently. Mackenzie Rowlett plays

1st base for the Buckaroos. Her aunts, uncles, and cousins from Lincoln

went to see her play, as did her grandparents Dean & Helen Rowlett

of Syracuse and John and Gera Stilwell of Unadilla

Sister Megan Rowlett plays 1st base for the Buckeroos,

ages 18 and under team. They will play at Nationals in

Johnson City, TN, next week. Megan will be a student at UNL in the fall.

There was a double celebration in Bellevue's Old Town.

David & Amy Stilwell treated John Stilwell for his birthday and

Don & Karen Rowlett for their 25th wedding anniversary.

From Becky Hickman:

"June 27, Mike flew to Pusan, South Korea, and met up with the

US aircraft carrier USS George Washington, where on board the vessel

he naturalized sailors to become US citizens.

A few days later,

Matt and I met him in Seoul where, at the Younsan Garrison,

he participated in naturalizing 41 service and family members from

19 different countries. It wan an historic day for these families that

have already made a huge sacrifice for their new country and for it

to be held on the 4th of July made it even more special. There

wasn't a dry eye in the church.

Later that day we had a cookout on the base in the Embassy

housing area, which is very park like. Mike grilled steak, hamburgers,

brats, ribs, and real live corn on the cob. It wasn't Unadilla corn,

but it was great as it had been 10 months since we laid eyes on an ear.

It was nice to be outside in the fresh air and out of the concrete jungle.

The guy in the red Husker Jersey is Walter Haith from Brock, NE,

who is the Field Office Director in Seoul (the same position Mike

has in Beijing.) Small world!"

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

mailbox 3

Friday, 7-26-1912, The Otoe Union:

A small tornado hit the farm of Fred Wallen, 3 miles west and

1/2 south of Unadilla. "It twisted his barn in a bad shape, moved it

partly off its foundation, and partly unroofed it. About 20 big apple

trees were uprooted, some of them as thick as a man's body."

Vera Lapp, formerly of Hopewell, was married to Dr. McClaughry

of Mound City.
