Belated birthday wishes to Matt Capps, who celebrated Saturday night with

friends and family. The food was terrific and the refreshments were cold - what

more could you want?

The Art Camp held last week at the Community Center was a HUGE

hit! It was wonderful to hear children's voices in the building  again.

Thanks so much to Otoe County Partners, P.U.F.F., Jackie Schmitz,

Amanda Davis, and Sara Martin for making this wonderful opportunity

happen. Children attended from Palmyra, Unadilla, and Syracuse.

If you have the chance, please thank them for a job well done,

and keep your fingers crossed, that it will happen again next year.

A reminder that the burn pit facility is only for trees and tree trimmings,

or raw lumber. NO furniture, leaves, yard waste, painted lumber,

dry wall, or bags of garbage. Please dispose of these items properly.

If the state finds these items at the burn pit we would be in violation

of our permit and the site would be shut down. That would be a big loss

to the town as well as the residents. If you're not sure,

please call the Village Office at 402-828-5355.

Trying to reduce your electric bill? Turn off and unplug electronics and

appliances when not in use; you can shave up to 10% off your bill.

FYI: a computer in screensaver mode uses almost as much

electricity as it does when being used.

Dates are starting to fill up for gym rental for the fall. The regular $75 fee

includes time from 11 am to 5 pm. If you would like it for the whole day

or are going to have a wedding reception, the fee is $125 and requires a

$125 deposit.Memberships are $25. for a single person, $75 for a family.

Coaches pay an additional $10/per hour. One time visits are $2 each.

Also, the kitchen has been licensed by the state, and it is available

for caterers, professionals, etc. for $30/per day. Office space is

also available for $250/per month and requires a $250 deposit.

Friday, 8-9-1912, The Otoe Union:

A.H. Soflin left for Wray, CO, to build an elevator. "Jesse Van Horn

has a new threshing engine of the Huber persuasion." Daly DeFreese, who

was so severly bitten by a dog, was slowly recovering. Ethel Russell was

back to work at telephone central. Thomas Luff, North Russell,

purchased the butcher shop in Palmyra and was looking for a renter

for his farm.
