The Creamed Chicken dinner held yesterday at the Christian

as usual!

My sister and I learned that our great-great-grandfather
served in the Civil War and was killed in the Battle of Franklin,
Tennessee. Later on we joined the Daughters of Union Veterans
of the Civil War and received a magazine "General Orders".
Upon arrival of the first issue, I was amazed to learn that there
were still living children of Civil War veterans; women are addressed
as "Real Daughters". In the last issue there was an obituary for
Stella Mae Case, 94, California. She was the daughter of
John Harwood Pierce, who joined the 11th Illinois Volunteer
Calvary when he was 14. He was 70 when Stella was born
and died 7 years later. When checking pension records, I learned
that there are still sons of Civil War veterans, elderly but
quite alive!
Veteran's Day is this coming Sunday, November 11.
Please remember to honor your family's veterans.

If you didn't, you may pick one up at the Village Office.
Please, return them by December 1, and
thanks in advance for your contribution.
