The Village Board met on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the
Village Library. The main order of business was to appoint
Corinne K. Zahn the new Clerk/Treasurer. She recently attended
her first year of Clerk's School, and is proving to be a great asset
to the Village. If you don't know her yet, stop in and say "Hi".
Other items discussed were nuisance properties, a new
building permit, paving project, sidewalk at the park, and
delinquent water patrons. The next meeting is May 8 and
the public is always encouraged to attend.

The Unadilla Cemetery Association met Saturday, April 13,
at the Duncan Building. Those attending: Dean Luff, Dean Speth,
Keith Kimbell, Lynn Pickerill, Bob Stanley, Sandi Kimbell, and
Barb Wilhelm. The 2012 minutes, the 2012/2013 treasurer's
report, and the mowing contract with Todd Krieger, were all
approved. Installing the new flagpoles was discussed and it was
decided to start the next day. Even though it was very windy,
the bases were installed. Thanks so much to everyone
involved. It is a wonderful improvement to the cemetery.

Did you know that if U.S. homeowners let their grass clippings
remain on the lawn, they could reduce fertilizer use by 25%
and save 1.3 billion pounds of chermical fertilizers and more
diesel fuel than Amtrak uses in 6 years?

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO
Friday, 4-18-1913, The Otoe Union:
W.F. Hair and Horstman & Parker each received and stored a
railroad car of barreled salt. "There is a startling example of
terrific force of the recent tornado on exhibition in the window
of the harness shop (now the Post Office). It is an apple tree limb,
through which is driven a hard pine stick some 16 inches long
and about the size of a hoe handle, as completely as though it
were an iron wedge. The limb came from one of the trees that
stood where the Durbin family lived."
