The Unadilla Area Fund (formerly the Unadilla Area Community

Foundation) met Tuesday, April 16, at the Community Center

Library. Corinne Zahn was welcomed to the group. Letters that

say "Unadilla Community Center" will be installed above the

main doors in the near future. Peggy Leefers also discussed

getting a neon sign for the window in the Library so everyone

knows when its open. The BBQ was discussed, as was the new

sidewalk at the Park. The next meeting will be May 14, 2013.

garage sales. Roll-off dumpsters will be at the park from 9-Noon.

Members of the Village Board will be there to assist you.

Did you know if the use of cloth diapers increased by just 1%,

the reduction in waste would be about the same as 14,200

 Bluebird

The Unadilla area Bluebirds Across Nebraska (BAN) members

hosted the annual state conference at the Unadilla Community

Center. One hundred sixty-one registered for the one day event

with 20 guests also attending as families of honorees receiving

awards for their work with BAN. The day was spent learning more

about bluebird trails and educating members and guests about

successfully fledging as many birds as possible.

Sandy Seibert, President of BAN spoke first on the basics of

bluebirding. Leland Osten, the wonderful photographer for

BAN showed many of his photos in his presentation of bird

species. Osten and Gordon Hopp are regulars out in the field studying

birds and in the quest for photographs. Ken Dewey, a professor

at UNL and a storm chaser, gave a most interesting program

entitled Weather 101. It used video and photos explaining what

to do and what not to do in various storm situations.

All programs were really well presented and well received by

those attending. A children's program for 5th grade and under

gave 18 children their chance to be creative with different projects

throughout the day. The annual conference is the only fund

raising activity each year for BAN. We were very pleased

with the attendance and are looking forward to next year.

If you would like to become a member, please

contact Gordon Hopp.

He is a skilled performer of diverse percussion instruments including drums, African instruments, Mbira (thumb piano), Plains Indian flutes, Brazilian percussion flutes, various bamboo flutes. The concert will be followed by a drum circle. Michael's drum circles are a "hit" with young and old alike! The concert will be downstairs in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, and followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.
