Bookworm

Saturday, May 4th, Corinne Zahn, Karla Zahn, Becky West, Jasmine and Jaicee Temple, Cindy Ford, and Sherry Kreifels arrived at the Village Library to move the children's books to the new shelves, and filled the vacated shelves with newly donated books. This was their Mother's Day gift to their Mom and Grandmother, Peggy Leefers. Son the library will be completely finished, and an open house will be held at a later date.

After the book moving, all went to Peggy's for a quick lunch and were soon joined by more relatives for a wedding shower in honor of Becky West. She and Michael were married the previous weekend. She received many lovely and useful gifts, and everyone enjoyed a fun afternoon. The youngest guest present was 10 week old Gracin Meays, grandson of Sherry Kreifels, and son of Megan and Jared Meays of Omaha. Everyone enjoyed meeting Gracin, and he enjoyed the attention.

New letters have been installed on the schoolhouse building, identifying it as the "Unadilla Community Center". Funds were provided by a generous grant from the Unadilla Area Fund (formerly known as the Unadilla Area Foundation.)

Also, we've had some complaints about people coming into the gym when there are special events going on and using the exercise room during a wedding reception. That room will now be locked during these special occasions, and if you are a member, please do not intrude on special gatherings. These are listed on the white board in the hallway and on this website.

Final plans are being made for the annual Unadilla Alumni Dinner at the Duncan Building on Saturday, May 25th. Invitations have been sent to alumni, but anyone who might like to attend is certainly welcome to do so. Come, bring a covered dish to share, and your table service. Join friends you may not have seen for awhile. Social hour is 5:30 p.m. and carry in dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. This year's theme is "A Time to Remember", so bring your memories and memorabilia. For more information call Peggy Leefers at 402-828-5725.

Great news! Art Camp has been scheduled in Unadilla again this year! Dates will be 7-29 through 8-2. Kids should have brought home flyers distributed at school. Mark your calendars as classes are limited to 20 children each.

Ordinance #257-13 was passed at the Village Board meeting on May 8th. It replaces Ordinance #250-10, and now allows the sale of alcoholic liquor, beer, and wine, on Sundays from 6:00 a.m to 1:00 a.m. If you would like to read the whole ordinance, go to the "Village Office" tab above and click on "Ordinances".

We have been having a lot of sewer trouble in town, and the maintenance department asked that you not flush anything except toilet paper. Thanks in advance.

 Gang of_Dogs

Dog licenses expired April 30th. There are several residents who still have not licensed their animals. Please take care of this as soon as possible.

Did you know if you started using cloth napkins it would keep 500,000+ tons of paper based trash out of landfills each year? Even considering the cost of laundering those napkins, the impact on the earth would be huge!

Friday, 5-16-1913, The Otoe Union:

Carson Davis purchased Chas. Howe's homestead in Weld County, Colorado. John Alexander purchased the Wm. Hall property for &850. John Nash purchased John Alexander's home for $3200. (Nice profit!). Some things never change: "The question is, how long will it be before the dandelions get possession of our yards and lawns if they keep on increasing as they have in the past few years. It will take a universal crusade to eradicate them."
