Our friends at the Extension Office remind us that
October 6-12 is National 4-H week.
Get well wishes to Barb Leefers - hope you're
home soon!
New books in the library include Nicholas Spark's latest, "The Longest Ride" and Monica Sucha Vickers, a Syracuse graduate tell of her life with the many physical challenges after being born without most of her limbs. Her book "My Extraordinary Life", is a very inspiring book in dealing with the everyday life we take for granted. Also there are several Dorothea Benton Frank books. The next to watch for is Charles Martin: 3 of his books will soon be on the shelves. Shirley Stubbendick, former Unadilla teacher and librarian, says they are books you can not put down and highly recommends them. They are on their way to our library.
Thanks to Steve Vodicka for the photos of
the Monday night soccer games.

A reader reminded us that October is also Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness month, with October 15 being the day to light a candle to remember those who are no longer with us.
Bev Wilhelm needs a break! She hosted the evening meal Saturday night and the noon meal on Sunday in honor of visitors Mike & Penny McCormick and Steve & Carolyn Knupp. They are the children of Ruth Wilhelm's brother, Dean McCormick and had not been back for 2 years. Other family present were Dave & Nola Johnson, Lincoln, Bob & Barb Wilhelm, Nick, Lynn, Livia, and Halle Wilhelm, Syracuse, Marcus, Brianne, Charlie, and Oliver Wilhelm, Omaha, and Chuck Bjork. It was great catching up with them and we learned some new family stories!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO
Friday, 10-3-1913, The Otoe Union:
Schreiner & Russell were advertising 2 types of heaters:
the Combined German heater for hard and soft coal,
and the Duplex for wood. They also carried "base burners"
and "ranges". Sixteen Greek members of the railroad gang
quit and returned to Kansas City. "It was getting too cool
for them here." A farewell party was given for Mabel Russell
who was moving to Lincoln.

NUNSET BOULEVARD
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley opens the wacky musical-comedy 'Nunset Boulevard' on Saturday, October 12. 'Nunset' is the sixth installment of the popular series chronicling the antics little sisters of Hoboken. This time they have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. However, upon their arrival, they discover that it's actually the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama and Cabaret Lounge. When they find there is a screen test going on across the street, they think stardom is just a few steps away! This is a fun family-friendly evening filled with lighthearted comedy and fantastic vocals.Directed by Kevin Colbert, the play stars the operatically trained Janet Sorensen of Elmwood as Reverend Mother. Her second in command, Sister Mary Hubert is played by Betty Colbert. Anna Stroebel of Papillion, Charity Baker of Elmwood and Samantha colbert and Alyssa DiPaolo both of Lincoln fill out the ranks.
