What a wild weather week. For the first time in many, many
years, we lost electricity at the Western Wilhelm Outpost.
It went off around 10:30 pm and came back on around
3:30 am. Considering the damage around us,
we consider ourselves very lucky.
In attending a retirement seminar last week, we learned about
an agency that serves all Nebraska seniors called SHIIP,
which stands for Senior Health Insurance Information Program.
If you have decided on a Medicare supplement plan, you can
call them and they will tell you the prices for that policy for each
of the 50+ insurance companies in Nebraska. We also
learned that all the plans (and there are 10 of them) are
standardized. Another service they provide is Part D
comparisons; you call them with a list of your prescriptions
and they will tell you which companies will cover them for
the lowest price. The presenter also suggested doing a
comparison every year especially if you prescriptions
change. Open enrollment for Part D is always between
October 15 through December 7.
Questions? Their number is 800-234-7119.

NUNSET BOULEVARD
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley opens the wacky musical-comedy 'Nunset Boulevard' on Saturday, October 12. 'Nunset' is the sixth installment of the popular series chronicling the antics little sisters of Hoboken. This time they have been invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl. However, upon their arrival, they discover that it's actually the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama and Cabaret Lounge. When they find there is a screen test going on across the street, they think stardom is just a few steps away! This is a fun family-friendly evening filled with lighthearted comedy and fantastic vocals.Directed by Kevin Colbert, the play stars the operatically trained Janet Sorensen of Elmwood as Reverend Mother. Her second in command, Sister Mary Hubert is played by Betty Colbert. Anna Stroebel of Papillion, Charity Baker of Elmwood and Samantha colbert and Alyssa DiPaolo both of Lincoln fill out the ranks.

In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.
