Friday, 3-13-1914, The Otoe Union:

"Miss Charlotte Stilwell entertained all the young people who

assisted in the play given at District #102 (Orchard Hill) with a

light meal. The rest of the evening was spent in playing flinch,

roodles, and Bunco and at last winding up the evening by

everyone telling a ghost story. Several quite thrilling tales

were told and some of the guests became too frightened to

go home alone."

Screen shot

Kevin Colbert also stars in this production along with Brandy Palatas of Papillion as his wife.  Stacy White and Shari Hoelker of Omaha, Jim Knierim of Louisville and Harold Scott of Lincoln round out the cast.  Performance dates are March 8, 9, 14-16, 21-23, 28-30, April 4-6, 11-13, 18 and 19.  Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm.  Sunday performances are 2pm matinees.

Mahoney State Park is located off the interstate on exit 426.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12.  While some tickets are available at the door, you can call to reserve your tickets at (402) 944-2523 ext 7122.  A valid park entry permit is required.

Nyckelharpa Concerto Premieres in Nebraska

On Sunday, April 13, at 3 PM, the Hastings Symphony will be performing a world premiere: the world's first concerto for nyckelharpa and orchestra.  The piece is composed by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, and will be performed by multi-instrumentalist, Deborah Greenblatt.  The piece is in three movements, each one reflecting a story by Hans Christian Anderson: "The Brave Tin Soldier", "The Ugly Duckling", and "The Emperor's New Clothes".

The nyckelharpa is the official fiddle of Sweden.  The instrument has 16 strings in all.  There are 3 melody strings, manipulated by keys, one droning string, and 12 strings that vibrate sympathetically.

For more information about the nyckelharpa, contact the American Nyckelharpa Association (www.nyckelhapra.org/).
