Please join us at our annual Cemetery Board meeting on
Saturday, April 12, 9:00 a.m., at the Community Center
Room #1. The public is always welcome to attend, and we
would be interested in your input. If you would like to purchase
a casket flag to honor a loved one, they are $50.

Belated 85th birday wished to
Leta Steinkuhler.
Norma Jean Boettcher and Ron & Lori Vodicka
traveled to Cherokee and Pella, Iowa, to take in
performances by Joseph Hall as "Elvis".

Saturday, 46 people signed in at the Annual Rural
Schools reunion at Harmony School near Nebr. City.
OCGS members sponsored this event. Gera Stilwell
oversaw the "Spelling Bee", which was a lot of fun,
even if I didn't win! Mona Kuhlenengel presented records
and gave a short presentation on Pleasant Hill School,
Dist. #90. There was also a display board of a trip to the
east coast by local teachers in 1910, as well as new
pictures from rural Otoe county schools, teachers, and
children. There are still unidentified ones and we're still
wanting more information to include in the book that will
be published some time next year (we hope!).
Please remember to renew your dog's license
by April 30th.
Welcome to the area, Matt Doeden and family, and
Kody Boone and family. Sad farewells to Aaron and
Amber Kempkes, and the Brian Werner family.

Nyckelharpa Concerto Premieres in Nebraska
On Sunday, April 13, at 3 PM, the Hastings Symphony will be performing a world premiere: the world's first concerto for nyckelharpa and orchestra. The piece is composed by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, and will be performed by multi-instrumentalist, Deborah Greenblatt. The piece is in three movements, each one reflecting a story by Hans Christian Anderson: "The Brave Tin Soldier", "The Ugly Duckling", and "The Emperor's New Clothes".
The nyckelharpa is the official fiddle of Sweden. The instrument has 16 strings in all. There are 3 melody strings, manipulated by keys, one droning string, and 12 strings that vibrate sympathetically.
For more information about the nyckelharpa, contact the American Nyckelharpa Association (www.nyckelhapra.org/).
