The Unadilla Area Fund/Foundation met Tuesday, April 22,
in the Community Library. Wilhelm announced that she had
booked Lyn Messersmith and Deb Carpenter-Nolting as the
speakers for Groundhog Day 2015. Their presentation is
entitled "Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History." The
BBQ was also discussed as was planting memorial trees
at the park and putting up a new flag pole. The entire minutes

Scandinavian Concert
Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features a concert of Scandinavian music on Sunday, May 11, at 2:30 PM, in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. Greenblatt & Seay will be playing a variety of instruments, including fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, recorders, pennywhistles, and the nyckelharpa. The nyckelharpa is the official keyed fiddle of Sweden, and has 16 strings.
Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago. Their performance on May 11 will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay.
The concert will be downstairs, and followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers. Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur, one mile south of Highway 34.

The historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse was built in 1925, and has been the home of the Schoolhouse Performance Series since 1990. Music lessons, workshops, fiddle camps, and field trips are offered by Schoolhouse residents, Greenblatt & Seay, and are available by appointment.



The annual Monumental Fiddling Championship and Acoustic Band Contest will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center in Beatrice, Nebraska.
Fiddlers, young and old, are encouraged to participate. Professional musicians Greenblatt and Seay will conduct a free fiddle workshop at 10 AM, allowing fiddlers to gain new skills and fine tune current skills.
Competition will begin at 12 p.m. There are three divisions: Junior Division (less than five years’ experience), Senior Division (five years of experience or more), and Legends Division (past 1st place winners of the Senior Division). Participants will play three pieces; a hoedown, waltz and tune of choice. Prize money for the contest is $1,500.
There is also an Acoustic Band Contest , as well as awards for the youngest fiddler, the oldest fiddler, and the best left-handed fiddler.
There are no participant or registration fees
Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln.
Admission is free of charge.
