Memorial Day

We urge you to attend the Memorial Day Service

at your local cemetery on Monday May 26.

Another fun event has been added to the Unadilla

Day schedule. The Wachiska Audubon Society will

host a program entitled "Meet the Insect" at the

Dieken Praire, for 5-12 year olds.

Containers and nets will be provided.

Questions should be directed to

Bob Brandt, 402-828-3210.

John & Gera Stilwell were Mother's Day supper guests of

David & Amy Stilwell, Lincoln. Also attending were

Roger Prochazka and Megan Rowlett.

Russell Precinct has over 500 registered voters, and Tuesday,

May 13, enough of you voted to reach a 28% turnout. I'm told

that's very good for an "off year" election. There were two

first time voters, Jemma Romine and Turner Moore. What a

sense of duty they have. Those serving on the election board

were: Alberta Block, Carolyn Kastens, Barb Wilhelm,

Peggy Leefers, and Maureen Vogt.

See you in November!

Graduation

Dillon Jones, great-nephew of John & Gera Stilwell,

graduated from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in

Education degree. He was honored with a dessert

reception at the home of his parents,

Kurt & Jill Jones, Palmyra.

    NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

    mailbox 3

    Friday, 5-22-1914, The Otoe Union:

Class of 1914 motto: "Education Leads to Virtue". A son was

born to Henry Horstman's on 5-18-1914. "Henry Leefers is

building a new house on his farm 5 miles north of Unadilla."

The Christian and Methodist churches would hold a joint

service "in honor of the soldier dead". H.H. Bartling withdrew

from the state senate race. George Driver was the teacher

at Dist. #25, Eden Hill School. I guess history DOES repeat

itself, down to the day: "The past week has noted some

unusual weather conditions. On May 6th and 8th, the

temperature dropped to 34 degrees. It was down to

30 degrees on the 13th and 14th, and 32 degrees on

    the 15th." Sound familiar???

“Dearly Beloved” Opens Lofte’s 38th Season
    Manley, NE [May 9, 2014] -
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces the opening of “Dearly Beloved” on their main stage on May 24th.  Frankie has almost made herself sick with the elaborate preparations for her daughter’s antebellum wedding, and the rumor mill in little Fayro, Texas is working overtime.  Frankie and her sisters are no strangers to gossip.  They had a scandalous breakup of their almost-famous gospel trio, ‘The Sermonettes.’
Despite Frankie’s conversations with her dead mother, Honey Raye’s habit of racing to the altar time after time, and Twink’s own struggle to get her boyfriend of 15 years down the aisle, Frankie is determined to pull off this wedding with elegance and style.  However, this is made more difficult when the wedding dinner is turned into a potluck supper sponsored by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat and gold lame gowns are worn to the church!
Directed by Kevin Colbert, the cast stars Chris Werger of Eagle; Alyssa DiPaolo of Lincoln, Shari Hoelker, Doug Rothgeb, and Randy Wallace of Omaha; Keri Hogue of Elmwood; Wendy Allen, Pat Billings, Bret Tincher and Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth and Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.
Production dates for the show are May 24, 25, 30, 31 and June 1 and 6-8.  Curtain times are 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees.  Single show tickets are $19, but you can buy a season pass for $65 until June 8.  The season pass entitles one person admission to all five regular season shows in 2014.  Call the Lofte box office at 402-234-2553 or purchase online at www.Lofte.com.
