The Unadilla Alumni Dinner was held at the Duncan Building

on Saturday, May 24, 2014, with 46 in attendance. The theme

for the evening was Groundhog Day. The evening began with

a social hour of visiting with old friends and classmates. The

flag salute was led by Lee Clark. The Doxology was sung and

a delicious carry in dinner with many salads, fried chicken,

and a huge dessert table was enjoyed by all. The Alumni

Association furnished the chicken this year and no door

fee was charged.

The honored classes were 1939, 1944, 1949, and 1954. Present

from the 1939 year class was Helen Hahn Barkhurst of Louisville.

Lois Stoner Ebert of Unadilla represented the 1944 class. Class of

Colleen McCarthy of Lincoln and Donna Rae Callaway Thoms

of Nebraska City were present for the class of 1949. Martha

Stilwell Brown of Lincoln, and Barb Wallen Witt & Dwayne

Witt of Syracuse represented the class of 1954. Roland Rodaway,

class of 1938, and also the 2014 Groundhog King and honored

guest, gave some history of his class of 11 and some

interesting facts about the school and the surrounding area.

Harold Kuenning, Lincoln, told of his

veterans trip to Washington D.C. to see the Korean War

Memorial. Mary Margaret Clark led group singing with the

round "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and "My Country Tis of

Thee". Everyone participated in a groundhog quiz.

Jean Lucas read the account

of last year's dinner, bills for this year were presented, and

voted to be paid. Discussion of the 2015 dinner included a

motion by Milton Leefers and seconded by Barbara Witt

and Donna Thoms, to once again furnish the fried chicken.

Vases of flowers as centerpieces

were given to Helen Barkhurst, Lois Ebert, Roland Rodaway,

Arvilla Noerrlinger, and Glen & Susie Wyatt. Groundhog

cookie cutters were won by Jane Ross, Jan Thomson, Barb

Leefers, Glen & Susie Wyatt, Jerry Thoms, and Johnny

Goering. Wal-Mart gift cards were received by Ralph Ross,

Wilma Halvorsen, Bob Fey, Jean Lucas and

Robert Callaway.

Lee & Mary Margaret Clark and Larry & Rosemarie

Halvorsen were the host for the evening. Dwayne & Barbara

Witt and Martha Brown will be in charge of the 2015 dinner to

be held on Saturday, May 23, at the Duncan Building. Peggy

Leefers closed the evening with the Irish Prayer.

Bride

Friday afternoon, May 30, Bob & Barb Wilhelm attended the

afternoon wedding of Joy Boardman & Troy Landwehr.

Joy is the daughter of Jim & Beckie Boardman, Lincoln.

The event was held under the trees at the Unicorn Castle,

located in the Loess Hills near Pacific Junction, Iowa. It

was beautiful, as was the bride. After a honeymoon in

St. Johns, the couple will reside in Gretna.

Keeping your drinking water safe #3: Check drain lines

(refrigerator drink dispensers, water softeners, heat

exchangers, etc) to be sure there is an adequate air gap

between the drain line and the floor drain or sewer line

into which they discharge.

“Dearly Beloved” Opens Lofte’s 38th Season
Manley, NE [May 9, 2014] -
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces the opening of “Dearly Beloved” on their main stage on May 24th.  Frankie has almost made herself sick with the elaborate preparations for her daughter’s antebellum wedding, and the rumor mill in little Fayro, Texas is working overtime.  Frankie and her sisters are no strangers to gossip.  They had a scandalous breakup of their almost-famous gospel trio, ‘The Sermonettes.’
Despite Frankie’s conversations with her dead mother, Honey Raye’s habit of racing to the altar time after time, and Twink’s own struggle to get her boyfriend of 15 years down the aisle, Frankie is determined to pull off this wedding with elegance and style.  However, this is made more difficult when the wedding dinner is turned into a potluck supper sponsored by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat and gold lame gowns are worn to the church!
Directed by Kevin Colbert, the cast stars Chris Werger of Eagle; Alyssa DiPaolo of Lincoln, Shari Hoelker, Doug Rothgeb, and Randy Wallace of Omaha; Keri Hogue of Elmwood; Wendy Allen, Pat Billings, Bret Tincher and Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth and Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.
Production dates for the show are May 24, 25, 30, 31 and June 1 and 6-8.  Curtain times are 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees.  Single show tickets are $19, but you can buy a season pass for $65 until June 8.  The season pass entitles one person admission to all five regular season shows in 2014.  Call the Lofte box office at 402-234-2553 or purchase online at www.Lofte.com.
