roses long

Condolences to the family and friends of

Shirley (Underhill) Wallen and Bertha (Barker) Davis.

Also to Barb & Milton Leefers on the loss of

Barb's brother.

Hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July. We're not

sure where they were at, but we heard some pretty big

booms at the Western Wilhelm Outpost. Too bad it didn't

scare the groundhogs away. So far this year, we have

captured 2 adults and 6 pups. I think I would rather

have bunnies!

Can you believe school supplies are in stores already?

The first day of school is Thursday, August 14th. The Open

House for all grades is Tuesday, August 12th.

For those of you out of town, the Otoe County Fair

is August 10th through August 13th.

The Unadilla Fire & Rescue is in need of EMTs,

Nurses (work under EMT/BLS guidelines), and

firefighters. If you are interested, please contact

Rescue Captain Linda Liesemeyer, or

Fire Chief Steve Vodicka.

Did you know you could circle the earth 436 times per

year with the styrofoam cups that are used in the

United States? That more than one-third of the waste

in our garbage cans is compostable organic material?

That Americans toss 195 million tons of garbage each

year - enough to fill 108,000 garbage trucks?

Twelve oak trees were planted at the park, downtown street scape, and Community Center by Troy Pabst and Bob Brandt on July 3,2014. Oaks included swamp white, burr , chickapin, and dwarf chickapin oaks. Troy works for the NE Forest Service and spends most of his time managing Horning State Park by Plattsmouth.

A plaque honoring Russ & Trixie Ziemann is now in place

in the Community Center Library. This pair, who loved to

read, left a monetary gift to the Library as well as hundreds

of books. Trixie's favorite saying is across the bottom.
